Hey toy fans welcome back to our next review of the Marvel Legends Infinite Series, Guardians of the Galaxy. Today we will be taking a look at Gamora, who is played by Zoe Saldana in the movie.

This badass assassin is ready to take on the scum of the universe so let’s take a look and see how this figure ranks! First up, I love the packaging that Hasbro has been using on this series. Each figure comes in a beautiful window box that is super simple to open up and get your figure out. No cutting of tape, no ripping off a blister bubbles, no tearing the cardboard card! All of these terrible things have been eliminated by this collector friendly packaging. As you can see from the gallery below, the figure is displayed nicely in the package, the siding shows off which character it is with some nice artwork, and the back does a nice job with simplicity.  I like how they show you which pieces come with who, so that when you are running around like a crazy person trying to find all the Groot pieces, at least you know who you’re looking for!

Gamora is a brightly painted figure. Even though her uniform is dark, her colors really show. Her uniform is the most dynamic, the blue on it really stands out when she is in the light, but hides itself when there’s a shadow. This does a lot for the figure, and keeps it from being overly dull. All of the paint lines are very clean, which is easy on the uniform but could really standout when it comes to contrasting with her skin. I love that they gave her hair a multi-tonal look. The highlights are beautifully faded into the darker parts of her hair, and it shines nicely in the light. Her face is painted very well, and though the look is a little off when compared to Saldana, this figure still has that sexy, dangerous look.

The sculpt is decent, Gamora is definitely on the dainty-side of the action figure spectrum; but don’t let that fool you! Compared to the days of old, female action figures are only getting better and better. The only problem I have with Gamora is that her boots are small, they aren’t a heel; which would have made posing that much worse, but the surface area on the bottom of her boot is tiny. You will have some issues getting her to stand up the way you want at times. The way her upper leg joints work won’t help your case either. This limited articulation in combination with the tiny feet have caused me all sorts of trouble, especially when I want to display her without a base. I like the fact that they gave her a soft plastic belt and holster, and even though it doesn’t hold anything, it’s a nice touch.

On the articulation side of things, here’s what you get!

  • ball-joined head
  • ball-hinged shoulders
  • hinged/swivel elbows, ball-hinged wrists (side-side swivel)
  • ball-joined torso
  • ball-hinged hips, swivel thighs
  • front-back hinged higher and lower knees, and ball-hinged ankles

Gamora’s legs are the biggest issue for me. The limited motion of the hips is kind of weird, and it doesn’t really allow you to spread her legs out, so you are stuck with more of a front to back motion. The lack of a rotating torso is another aspect that bothers me. I am not a big fan of the hinge torso, and adding the rotation there is ok, but I prefer to have it at the waist. maybe it’s just me, but I had a hard time trying to find the right poses for this figure, and the strange combination of articulation didn’t help at all. The legs are a huge issue for me.

Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Gamora 07Overall this is a good-looking figure with some articulation issues, thus proving that even though a company can deliver on giving buyers the most POA, it doesn’t always work out. For a figure that has such small feet, more care of how she is going to stand needs to be addressed. The face sculpt could have been a little more actress accurate, but at least the figure has an attractive look. It looks as if Hasbro used the Black Widow mold for a lot of these parts, I will compare when I get BW in hand this month. Paint-wise, Gamora delivers, and all of the detail on her uniform, gloves, boots, etc, looks great. She only comes with one accessory, her sword. Which for an intergalactic assassin, is all she needs!
