We’re big fans of creator-owned comics here at DFAT and when I came across The Adversary from David Crispino; I knew it would be right up the alley of you Towelites. The one-shot story follows Mikhail, as he ventures into a a mysterious tower by being lured in by mysterious sights and sounds. Along his journey he encounters ghosts, zombie-like creatures, and finally the ultimate protagonist, The Adversary.

The story is only 18 pages long, but it doesn’t feel rushed. I took my time getting through it, as the visuals are very immerse. The art is filled with darker tones and a great sense of depth as Mikhail makes his way through the tower. The illustration by Tony Gregori and color work by Jasen Smith add to the eerie story that Crispino has created.

I was very entertained by the design of the creatures that you see in the story. If you’re a fan of the Expanded Universe from Star Wars, our main Adversary reminded me a lot of Prince Xizor from Shadows of the Empire. I would recommend this story to anyone who is a fan of fantasy and adventures. Mikhail is an easy character to like and get behind, while the Advesary is a classically excellent villain. Someone who believes what he’s doing is right and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. There were things that he said throughout the tale that had me siding with him at points. Kudos to Crispino’s writing on that one!

Currently there’s a Kickstarter campaign for the comic that you can support by visiting HERE. They are VERY close to reaching their goal, so please help them and keep up creator-owned campaigns like this going strong!
