Welcome back to my hot mess! This week we have some new titles from DC, something that we haven’t had in a while, at least not in my pull list. I also seemed to miss a couple last week, The Midnighter might very well be on my pull list soon enough. Either way, some fresh faces at DC look to spice things up, along with a bevy of new twists for the current ongoings. Things at DC might be getting spicy again. I have a book of Top of The Stacks, no one wants me to sign their copies.

secret wars journal 2

Secret Wars Journal #2 of 5 (Marvel)

Kevin Maurer/Simon Spurrier (W) Cory Smith/Jonathan Marks (A)

Much like Battleworld last week, I find that this series isn’t all that necisarry. I enjoy the short format stories, and the ability for lesser known writers to gain an audience, but seriously, up the game guys. These could be some crazy stories.

Constantine: The Hellblazer #1 (DC)

Ming Doyle (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

Yay, a new DC comic to follow. Although this comes right on the heels of the sad news that Constantine, the television show, is dead in the water with no immediate chances of revival, I am very excited to see a new series. Interestingly enough, this series is going to be written by Ming Doyle, typically an artist. In fact, I couldn’t find any info on her as a writer at all. Fingers crossed on this one.

Starve #1 (Image)

Brian Wood (W) Danijel Zezejl (A)

Brian Wood brings us a very interesting story. A battle of chefs gets out of control and it’s up to the creator of the show to bring sanity back to the world. Very ridiculous, lots of potential. We will see, won’t we?

All-Star Section 8 #1 of 6 (DC)

Garth Ennis (W) Jon McCrea (A)

From the guy who continues to bring us ridiculousness comes the return of Section 8. A ragtag team of brilliant failures. It’s only a short run so I couldn’t resist.

Injection_02-1

Injection #2 (Image)

Warren Ellis (W) Declan Shalvey (A)

The first issue of this comic was pretty intense. Lots of world building, and a scattered way of telling the story, but ultimately it worked. I am very intrigued with this world and hope to get some answers this week. But it’s only issue two, so who knows.

CMCACORPS2015001-DC11-d7dfc

Captain Marvel and The Carol Corps #1 (Marvel)

Kelly Sue DeConnick (W) David Lopez (A)

I could say this is a jumping on point for anyone who missed out on Captain Marvel, but really, I don’t think it is with all the craziness of Secret Wars. On the other hand, if you like Captain Marvel, then this is sure to be one of your favorite tie-ins. Tada!

 spider gwen 5

Spider-Gwen #5 (Marvel)

Jason Latour (W) Robbi Rodriguez (A)

Man, this series kicks some major ass. Rodriguez makes it a visual masterpiece while Latour does the other fantastic bits. Excited for the future of this character, and yes, it will have a future. My only, issue, what’s with the name. In the comic she’s Spider-woman, so why Spider-Gwen? Feels a bit more like a nickname people would give the character in a comic shop. Why not Gwen Stacy: Spider-Woman, or if that compromises the character’s integrity, Gwen Stacy: Spider-Man. I don’t know, I’m just nit-picking.

 weirdworld 1

Weirdworld #1 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Mike Del Mundo (A)

I was already super excited about this comic before I learned that Del Mundo was on art duties. Now I am bouncing off the walls pumped. Del Mundo’s style is going to mesh perfectly with Aaron’s intense writing style and the fantastic world this story takes place in. I am super dee duper pumped for this one.

inhumans attilan rising 2

Inhumans: Attilan Rising #2 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) John Timms (A)

So, like I said about Carol Corps, this isn’t a great “jumping on point”, but if you have been reading Inhumans, this series is a really cool alternate play on that world. I am thrilled about the once stoic Black Bolt becoming the charismatic bartender and revolution leader Black Agar. It’s actually really cool to see things turned on their head like this.

Chrononauts #4 of 4 (Image)

Mark Millar (W) Sean Murphy (A)

It’s over, well, it will be. I mean art lives forever, right. So it will never really be dead. Unless the language dies, and all the manuscripts are burned. Who knows? Maybe that will happen tomorrow. Not likely. Either way, this series was very fun and I enjoyed every minute of this team-up between super-artists.

Nameless_04-1

Nameless #4 (Image)

Grant Morrison (W) Chris Burnham (A)

This series is dark, not in the same sense that something like Wytches is, but in a mythical space gods made a prison for something that we just released kinda way. You understand. It’s insanity at it’s peak. Love this slice of awesome.

BlackScience_15_c-1

Black Science #15 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Matteo Scalera (A)

Ah, depression. It makes the best men tremble with fear. Make the worst celebrate it’s birth. Remender needs to talk to someone, at least he did, maybe he made a break through. Things are on the up in the comic. Our hero may actually become a hero. That won’t end well.

BM-Cv41-36bbf-720x1080

Batman #41 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Greg Capullo (A)

It’s here. Batman is gone and we get an all-new Batman in a big-ass mechanical suit. I mean if that doesn’t scream ballsy as hell, I don’t know what does. Well played Snyder, lets hope it’s good. Who am I kidding? Lets hope people don’t get too mad for no good reason.

Descender_04-1

Descender #4 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dustin Nguyen (A)

This series is rapidly climbing the ranks of favorite comic of all time. Honestly, this series is phenomenal and if I weren’t already so invested in Saga, it would probably be at the top. It is a very close tie.

 Saga_29-1

Saga #29 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Fiona Staples (A)

And here we go, you are at the top again. How does it feel. I love this series with an unhealthy passion. I have actually converted more people into comic-dom with this comic than I have with anything else. This is the reason creator owned comics are good, because creators are allowed to do anything, no matter how raunchy or insane. It’s brilliant, and this series embodies everything about the creator owned content movement as of late.

Viola, it has been doned. Some excellent titles this week, I would say I’m excited, but I’m always excited for new picture books to add to my increasingly difficult to manage collection. Maybe I’ll sell some, maybe not. I don’t even know what I’m doing after I write this, let alone in a few hours. Life is confusing like that. Remember to stay smart, or stay dumb. I’m not prejudiced.
