Oh, I see you found your way back to us. That’s good, I’m glad. We have a bed made just for you. I’m already brewing tea. Isn’t life just grand? Now excuse me, I have to retrieve the knife wedged deep in my calf. If I don’t come back, don’t get scared, just call Top of The Stack. They’ll sort it out.

Dr. Fate #1 (DC)

Paul Levitz (W) Sonny Liew (A)

While I am excited to see this character getting his own series, I’ll be the first to admit that I am not all that familiar with the character. I know of him, and have seen him in a few things, but never really read anything centered around him. I am intrigued to see how they recreate the origin with a new owner taking the mantle.

empire of the dead act 3.3

George Romero’s Empire of The Dead: Act Three #3 of 5 (Marvel)

George A. Romero (W) Andrea Mutti (A)

This series is pretty good. That much I know for sure, I just wish it were a little shorter. There have been some long drawn out issues recently that haven’t really made much of an impact on my busy brain. That being said, as a whole, this is a solid zombie story.

squadron sinister 1

Squadron Sinister #1 (Marvel)

Marc Guggenheim (W) Carlos Pacheco (A)

Interested in this series, and have been since they released the first teaser. Marc Guggenheim, of Arrow acclaim, is manning the series, which will be exciting for those fans of the show. Meanwhile, I’m over here pondering the effects an anti-JLA could have on the Marvel universe.

moon knight 16

Moon Knight #16 (Marvel)

Cullen Bunn (W) Ron Ackins (A)

This series has steadily gone down hill. I’m sorry Cullen, you are brilliant, but after Brian Woods and Warren Ellis before you, it isn’t the same comic, which is a little refreshing if not just a tad disappointing. That being said, still close to my heart.

IVAR-006-COVER-A-ALLEN-f8626

Ivar, Timewalker #6 (Valiant)

Fred Van Lente (W) Francis Portela (A)

Okay, so I take back everything I said about this story getting a little stretched thin. The last issue Van Lente delivered was spot on. I am seriously looking forward to this next arc.

Runaways-01-Cover

Runaways #1 (Marvel)

Noelle Stevenson (W) Sanford Greene (A)

Confession time. I have not read the critically acclaimed run by BKV. I am ashamed to say it. It’s been on my list and I was really hoping to get to it, but that was a few years ago and now here we are. Either way, I am interested to see this group together again, and penned by Lumberjanes scribe, Noelle Stevenson. This will be a fun series.

The Surface #3 (Image)

Ales Kot (W) Langdon Foss (A)

I am not sure if I like this series or not. I enjoy the premise, and Kot’s writing is as strange as ever, but I’m not sure it’s captured me yet. I’ll keep it for a few more issues. Call it a trial period.

Astro24b

Astro City #24 (Vertigo)

Kurt Busiek (W) Brent Eric Anderson (A)

So this arc started with a drumming silver-back gorilla that was self-exiled from his mystical mountain top civilization so that he could become a professional drummer. I don’t know what else I have to tell you in order for you to pick this up.

 ms. marvel 16

Ms. Marvel #16 (Marvel)

Willow Wilson (W) Adrian Alphona (A)

The last days of Kamala Khan have begun. I am deeply worried for this comic. Not because I don’t think it will return, I am sure it will. What I am afraid of is that it will have another creative team. While that isn’t always a bad thing, I really hope there isn’t a change. This team has done amazing things with this series.

old man logan 2

Old Man Logan #2 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Andrea Sorrentino (A)

I thouroughly enjoyed the first issue of this comic. Something that a lot of people have been afraid of is doing the original stories these comics are based upon improperly, and I think this series stands as a perfect testament to keeping the original idea intact. This new world is an amalgam of all the crazy stories we’ve read through the years, so it’s very important to stay true to them

Thors001cover

Thors #1 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Chris Sprouse (A)

Okay, so a cop walks into a bar, then trusts his hammer to the sky, raining lightning upon the quaint meeting ground for the drunk and disorderly before soaring upwards and taking the roof with him. That’s basically this comic. Not really, but the bit about Thor cops is accurate.

Trees_10-1

Trees #10 (Image)

Warren Ellis (W) Jason Howard (A)

This comic has evolved drastically in the recent issue, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s rare that I see a comic redirect the focus the way this comic has, while maintaining my interest. It’s almost like I got a brand new comic.

Manifestdestiny_15

Manifest Destiny #15 (Image)

Chris Dingess (W) Matthew Roberts (A)

This series is just great. I really look forward to every issue, and I am never let down. It truly shocks me with every turn and I really just missed it. You can never escape from the wilderness, you can only convince yourself that the clearing is a safe one.

BSRB_003_COVERA_SUAYAN-310x476

Bloodshot Reborn #3 (Valiant)

Jeff Lemire (W) Mico Suayan (A)

Bloody brilliant. If you were to ask me to sum this book up with a phrase, that would be it. Very apt, very bloody, even more brilliant. Something that really tickles me about this book is the way that they inject Lemire’s artwork into the comic through the character Bloodsquirt. Quirky and not in a cliched or gimmicky way.

LOW07-2x3-300

Low #7 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Greg Tocchini (A)

Yay, our namesake in depressing family sagas is back. A new arc starting with this issue and I’m sure it will have you begging for mercy just like the last one. I am intrigued to see if our chipped lead woman has had a shift in perspective since we last saw her. Only time can tell. That and the people who work on this book.

SouthernBastards_09-1

Southern Bastards #9 (Image)

Jason Aaron (W) Jason Latour (A)

I was listening to smooth jazz, but just as I started writing this bit, Creedance Clearwater Revival started playing from everything with a speaker in a five mile radius from my house. Now I must ask, Have you ever seen the rain? If not then you probably aren’t reading this comic. Seriously, I feel like the only thing more depressing than the lives of the people in this comic are the people living just south of the people in this comic. Intensely paced, brilliantly sculpted, and masterfully painted. I get giddy with this comic.

MMM. I love me some new comics. I also love the fact that DC is coming out with some fresh new items, nothing better than some spicy new superheroes. That being said, they are also going to be ending Wonder Woman soon, which is bad. Bad DC. All things must come to an end I suppose. Just like this article. Huh, weird how that works.
