Pretty good week we got here, not a bad comic book  in the lot. Not that that’s saying all that much, I do have excellent taste. Bragging aside, this is a pretty cool week and we get two weeks in a row of some lovely New Avengers action. Check it out!

Captain America mighty avengers 02Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #2 (Marvel)

Al Ewing (W) Luke Ross (A)

The last issue, being the first of course, set the course for an interesting arc. What really has this one so high up the list is that the new Captain America is acting entirely different from how he is in the first issue of All-New Captain America. I understand the solo is most likely set before Axis, but it threw me off. Also a couple corny lines here and there don’t help.

Wolverine X Men 12Wolverine and the X-men #12

Jason Latour (W) Jorge Jimenez (A)

I am not following the exploits of the X-men post-wolverine, so I really have no basis for where or when this issue will take place. From the solicitation, I gather that this deals with the X-men, primarily Storm and Quentin, as they deal with post-axis mood swings. Interesting but not necessarily my most anticipated.

Butterfly 3Butterfly #3 of 4 (Boom!)

Arash Amel (W) Antonio Fuso (A)

So, this story follows the reuniting of father and daughter, lost to each other by a need to move on. Also, you know, a clandestine agency hunting them both. Apart from the first half of the last issue falling a little flat and feeling drawn out, so far this series has been pretty solid.

Deathlok 2Deathlok #2 (Marvel)

Nathan Edmondson (W) Mike Perkins (A)

I was really excited, still excited, for this series, but my expectations had to be let down by the first issue a little. It wasn’t bad, don’t get me wrong, and it shows tons of promise, but after Edmondsons runs on Black Widow and The Punisher, I was hoping for some intrigue of that nature, only to get a cliched reveal at the end. Still my fingers are crossed for this one.

Superior Iron Man 2Superior Iron Man #2 (Marvel)

Tom Taylor (W) Yildiray Cinar (A)

The first issue of this guy here was pretty interesting and definitely caught my attention for the series. My only problem is that Taylor doesn’t seem to feel comfortable writing the character yet. Definitely something that a lot of pieces that focus around heavily characterized characters struggle with at first. Worth a read still.

Nova 24Nova #24 (Marvel)

Gerry Duggan (W) David Baldeon (A)

I really enjoyed the last issue of this comic. It was fun, really well build storytelling that left us wondering what would happen to our young hero. It also accomplished something I love in even tie-ins, it actually tied into the main story without being an attachment as opposed to a natural progression of the arc.

Batman Eternal 34Batman Eternal #34 (DC)

Kyle Higgans (W) Jason Fabok (A)

This story is starting to pick up pace again. Like any rollercoaster, it has ups and downs, but now we are getting into some seriously interesting territory. Can’t wait to see how the recent developments change our Batman

Scarlet Spiders 1Scarlet Spiders #1 of 3 (Marvel)

Mike Costa (W) Paco Diaz (A)

We get to follow the exploits of our favorite clones. Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly and The Ultimate Universe’s Jessica Drew head off to fight a battle of their own. It’s a clone thing.

Colder Bad Seed 2Colder: The Bad Seed #2 (Dark Horse)

Paul Tobin (W) Juan Ferreyra (A)

Excited when I realized this would be an ongoing, even more excited when I read the first issue. It totally captures the tone of the first limited series and develops the world even more. Very excited for this trek into the insane.

Letter 44 12Letter 44 #12 (Oni Press)

Charles Soule (W) Alberto Alburquerque (A)

Some intense, albeit somewhat silly, things happened in the last issue. Makes me excited for the journey of our two irradiated soldiers as they hunt down the bad guys that doomed them. A baby almost died too. Crazy stuff.

Wayward 4Wayward #4 (Image)

Jim Zub (W) Steven Cummings (A)

The group has formed! Seriously, I’m beginning to think our lead’s superpower is SUPER GROUP FORMING! It seems she has been driven this way against her will. I am very interested in seeing what comes from this magic channeling posse.

Spider Man 2099 6Spider-Man 2099 #6 (Marvel)

Peter David (W) Will Sliney (A)

Miguel is back in 2099! All is well, well, not really. Three bioengineering Spider-men look for the science and the solution to their newly discovered inheritor clone problem. I’m sure nothing bad could happen. Right?

Rasputin 2Rasputin #2 (Image)

Alex Grecian (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

I really enjoyed this first issue. I am intrigued by the way Rasputin is portrayed in this story. He seems to have the power of necromancy from a very young age and even knows that his friends are planning on killing him. What is his master plan? I must know!

Lazarus 13Lazarus #13 (Image)

Greg Rucka (W) Michael Lark (A)

With some pretty interesting power moves made by the enemy of the Carlyles, I am interested to see how our protagonists respond. With a burgeoning love between Forever and another Lazarus, the families are just noticing that maybe the Lazari are out of their control. Excited to see where this arc goes next.

Secret Avengers 10Secret Avengers #10 (Marvel)

Ales Kot (W) Michael Walsh (A)

This issue ties together the second arc of this amazing series. Seriously, please pick it up. Sales are down for this one, but it’s becoming on of my favorite series from Marvel. Very interesting to look at with my eyeballs and very funny. Despite that humor, it manages to strike very serious tones when it needs to. Do it, do the buys, do them now.

Memetic 2Memetic #2 of 3 (Boom!)

James Tynion IV (W) Eryk Donovan (A)

This series takes a ridiculous idea, a meme that actually causes the apocalypse, and makes it a very interesting social piece about the power of sharing ideas, along with the downfall of the very same ability. Also the world ends, I mean come on.

ODYC 1Ody-C #1 (Image)

Matt Fraction (W) Christian Ward (A)

WOOOO! Very excited about this one. I think in my high school “literature” class, I was one of the few people who was actually enthralled with the Odyssey. Blame that on the public school system, not the story. The idea of Fraction manipulating this story into a gender-swapped, psychedelic, space adventure tickles the pants off of me. Also who better to illustrate this series than the phenomenal Christian Ward. One of those combos you can’t miss out on.

Trees 7Trees #7 (Image)

Warren Ellis (W) Jason Howard (A)

The last issue of this comic was an amazing exploration of love. The kind we don’t see too often. A real, human story. This comic is fantastic and you are a fool not to try it out.

MP 25The Manhattan Projects #25 (Image)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Pitarra (A)

The Cold War has started. Where are our favorite mad scientists to go? The last few issues of this have been amazing, hysterical and heavily doused in conspiracy theories. I can go on for days about this comic, but I shouldn’t have to. Go read it!

New Avengers 27New Avengers #27 (Marvel)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Kev Walker (A)

Oh jeezy creezy you guys. Things are really starting to wrap up in this story, or unfurl, whichever you prefer. Either way it’s awesome, and I can only wait eagerly to see it all come to fruition. Seriously, read this comic, you won’t regret it. Every single person I’ve converted has thanked me. Just do it.

So there you go, an excellent pull list to curl up and read when you’ve finished shoving copious amounts of turkey in your gullet. Good times all around. See you guys after the break!
