More news has dropped from the Star Wars film front. This week it was announced that cinematographer Greig Fraser will be joining Gareth Edwards‘ crew on his un-titled Star Wars standalone spinoff film!

Greig FraserBest known for his work on films such as Zero Dark Thirty, Let Me In, Foxcatcher, and Killing Them Softly, Fraser will bring his unique talent to the project. In a recent interview, Fraser was quoted as saying:

“I’m doing a f***** Star Wars movie, which is like – I don’t know about you but Star Wars is like my first film love, do you know what I mean?… Gareth is doing a standalone film. Of course I do know some specifics, but it’s obviously something I’ve signed my kidneys away for.”

For the first time ever there will be a standalone film set outside the usual cookie cutter trilogy format. No word on what the film will entail or be about, but be sure that Disney and Lucasfilm won’t be dropping the ball on ANY of their Star Wars projects. So look for this one to be a doozy! You have to give credit when credit is due, and it looks like Disney isn’t holding back when it comes to bringing as much diversity to the franchise as possible.

The untitled Star Wars stand alone film is slated to hit theaters on December 16th, 2016.
