There’s been a lot of talk lately surrounding everyone’s favorite Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker. Ever since Jared Leto signed on to the role, in Suicide Squad, fans have been asking themselves, “What’s he going to look like?” Over the past couple of months, Leto has taken to social media and given us little glimpses here and there.

Joker Jared Leto 3One of the earliest images showed Jared eyebrowless, platinum blonde, and pretty creepy looking. Then, he releases the above image with lipstick and some green hair dye. Nothing to get too excited about in my opinion. Yet we can already tell he’s going to step away from the unwashed look of Heath Ledger, and go with the more traditional approach.

Joker Jared Leto 4We then get an homage to Alan Moore’s famous comic book story, ‘The Killing Joke’. You can see Leto with the Nikon camera emulating the cover of that momentous book. Still, just a tease.

Finally, we get a clearer, yet very blurry image, of what we can probably expect out of the Joker in the new movie. He’s laughing maniacally in a straight jacket, looking like a crazy man stuck in the confines of Arkham Asylum.

Joker Jared Leto 6And then THIS happens. The internet blows the fudge up and everyone splits their opinions fifty fifty. 4/24/15 was the 75th Anniversary of the character, and director of the film, David Ayer, released this image. Tatted up, iced grill, pink ring and all, this was what is considered the first ‘official look’ of Mr. J.

Say what you will in the comments, but I personally love it. He looks completely insane and the type of guy, that if you saw him in person, you better turn the other way or he will likely slash your throat and play with the blood. All of that being said, I don’t think this is the look we’ll be seeing in the final film.

Joker Jared Leto 7I think the above image is more about what we’ll be seeing in the final film. No face tats, and it’s more along the lines of the images released with Leto and his camera before. We get this image the day after the “official” picture comes out and its much more like what we’ve come to expect from the character. I was perfectly fine with the tattooed one above. I liked the purple glove, I liked the bleached skin (not painted mind you); and I liked the homicidal look. But it’s a promotional image that pays homage again to “The Killing Joke”, and it’s the 75th anniversary of the character. DC has been very good about leaking images of one of their most iconic characters out to the public and that look at the ‘damaged’ Leto above did exactly what they wanted it to; rile fanboys and fangirls up over it.

You did it, DC. Kudos to you. You broke the internet and deservedly so.

Like I said, I’m not sure what the final look will be, we will probably get a leak of the entire cast soon enough; but don’t be surprised if Joker is lacking his “damaged” face tattoos and is in a white or purple suit and smiling a huge-ass grin. He did what he does best, he played a gag on you, and all of you fell for it.
