The Wolverine began filming a few weeks ago, and you can see set-photos and video if you click the links. Today we get an update on the plot, as well as casting news. It seems that Russian actress, Svetlana Khodchenkova has landed the role of ‘Viper.’ For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, Viper fits into Wolverine’s mythos because both teamed up to fight against a ninja organization The Clan. Wolverine was being mentored by a guy named Seraph at the time, who fell victim to The Hand, and made Wolverine swear a giri or honorable debt to Viper. His debt was to marry her. As you can imagine, the divorce wasn’t pretty.
Given Fox’s long history to change EVERYTHING we’ve come to know about The X-Men, even in the brilliant First Class, I doubt anything I just wrote will even happen; but who knows. I have faith in director James Mangold (Knight and Day, Identity), and like what I’ve heard about this movie so far. You can hear more yourself, by reading the synopsis below.
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.
The Wolverine stars Hugh ‘The Jack’ Jackman, and is coming to theaters July 26th, 2013 and hopefully will be better than Wolverine: Origins.
