When the first Despicable Me film dropped, I knew that Universal had something big on their hands. It was the only movie that I felt really had the potential to rival a Pixar film; and it had a ton of lovable and sometimes annoying, Minions. One DM sequel later, and the Minions have premiered their first solo film; and it debuted with a ton of money. Claiming the title for the second biggest animated film opening of all-time, Minions took in a total of $115.2million dollars!

As you can imagine, no other movie in the Top Ten came even close. Jurassic World and Inside Out did stay at #2 and #3 positions though, earning $18.1 and 17.1million respectively. Newcomers The Gallows and Self/Less did fare quite as well, and you can see their totals below.

1. Minions $115,200,000
2. Jurassic World $18,100,000
3. Inside Out $17,108,000
4. Terminator: Genisys $13,700,000
5. The Gallows $10,015,000
6. Magic Mike XXL $9,640,000
7. Ted 2 $5,600,000
8. Self/Less $5,379,000
9. Baahubali: The Beginning $3,575,000
10. Max $3,420,000

Minions faces stiff competition next weekend, as it goes up against Ant-Man and Trainwreck. The Marvel Studios film is already receiving rave reviews from critics and I’m putting movie on that one. Trainwreck may be able to take down Jurassic World and Inside Out, but I have a feeling that Minions will be safe in the #2 slot. To find out how everything ends up, Stay Tooned to the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
