The United States has spent a lot of time and money looking for Matt Damon. From Saving Private Ryan, to Interstellar, and now with The Martian; it seems like we waste a lot of effort to track this guy down. With the latter, audiences flocked to theatre and it went on to premiere with $55 million.

This made it fall short of the greatest October opening of all-time, currently held by Gravity, by just $1 million dollars. That’s a pretty impressive feat for Ridley Scott and Mr. Damon. The rest of the Box Office didn’t fare quite as well, with last week’s winner, Hotel Transylvania 2, dipping just a bit to bringing in $33 million. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.

1. The Martian $55,000,000
2. Hotel Transylvania 2 $33,000,000
3. Sicario $12,075,000
4. The Intern $11,620,000
5. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials $7,650,000
6. Black Mass $5,905,000
7. Everest $5,510,000
8. The Visit $3,950,000
9. War Room $2,800,000
10. The Perfect Guy $2,400,000
11. The Walk $1,550,000

Next week, brings the wide premiere of The Walk. The film took in $1.5 million in 448 IMAX theaters this week; which means it’ll likely make $20 million when it officially premieres. It will face off against Pan, the Hugh Jackman film that was supposed to debut in July and is likely a horrible waste of cinema. Find out if The Martian takes the #1 spot again on the next edition of Weekend Roundup.
