The Box Office Juggernaut that was American Sniper has finally come to an end this past weekend, as a more family-friendly film won out with The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. The movie took the top spot this weekend by bringing in $56million dollars. That’s a huge deal considering the last SpongeBob film was back in 2004.

American Sniper doesn’t really have much to be upset about, as it’s made over $280million at the Domestic Box Office by taking in $24.2million this weekend, and gaining more exposure to audiences as it vies for Oscars this Month. The newcomers of Jupiter Ascending and Seventh Son managed to make it to the Top Five, though with not even close as much money as positions #1 and #2. They took in $19million and $7.1million respectively.

1. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water $56 million

2. American Sniper $24.2 million

3. Jupiter Ascending $19 million

4. Seventh Son $7.1 million

5. Paddington $5.4 million

6. Project Almanac $5.3 million

7. The Imitation Game $4.9 million

8. The Wedding Ringer $4.8 million

9. Black or White $4.5 million

Next week, the only movie that really matters will be Kingsman: The Secret Service. I’m hoping that it takes the Top Spot and knocks down the animated sponge a peg. I love writer Mark Millar and director Matthew Vaughn, and it’d be nice if this turns into a franchise for the both of them. We’ll keep you posted as to what happens on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
