I’m a little surprised that The Divergent Series: Insurgent took in as much money as it did this past weekend. The movie debuted at $54 million, which is only slightly less than the $54.6 million that the first film opened up with. The film is getting horrible reviews, but that obviously wasn’t enough to stop movie-goers from checking it out. Overseas it took in an additional $47 million, and with it’s budget being $110 million; there’s no doubt we’ll get to see a sequel.

Cinderella was bumped down a big to the second spot, but it still made $34.5 million. That’s pretty fantastic, and proves that Disney’s live-action format is continuing to be a big hit amongst movie-goers. The films of The Gunman and Do You Believe made their debut on the Top Ten in the 4th and 6th spots respectively and had very soft openings. You can see the rest of the Box Office results below.

1. The Divergent Series: Insurgent $54 million

2. Cinderella $34.5 million

3. Run All Night $5.1 million

4. The Gunman $5 million

5. Kingsman: The Secret Service $4.6 million

6. Do You Believe? $4 million

7. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel $3.5 million

8. Focus $3.3 million

9. Chappie $2.7 million

10. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water $2.4 million

Next week, we will see the premiere of Will Ferrel and Kevin Hart’s, Get Hard. I don’t particularly think the movie looks all that great, but I do have faith in Hart. It’ll no doubt give Insurgent a run for it’s money. Check us out on the next edition of Weekend Roundup to find out what happens.
