We all knew that Avengers: Age of Ultron was going to be dethroned this past weekend at the Box Office. The cinematic juggernaut had been standing tall on the Top Spot for the past three weekends in a row; but this time it was going down. The battle raged between Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2. The Pitches reigned supreme as they debuted at #1, with earnings of $70.3million.

Mad Max didn’t do all that bad in 2nd place with $44.4million; but with a budget of over $100million to make the film, it’s considered a flop. This is really too bad given that it’s critically lauded compared to Pitch Perfect; which Rotten Tomatoes is rating at 68% Fresh compared to Max’s 98%. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below to see how they fared.

1. Pitch Perfect 2 $70.3 million

2. Mad Max: Fury Road $44.4 million

3. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron $38.8 million

4. Hot Pursuit $5.8 million

5. Furious 7 $3.6 million

6. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 $3.6 million

7. The Age of Adaline $3.2 million

8. Home $2.7 million

9. Ex Machina $2.1 million

10. Far From the Madding Crowd $1.3 million

Next weekend will be interesting as we see Disney and Brad Bird’s next teamup in the form of the film, Tomorrowland. Little is known around the plot of the movie, and that could be a great thing; or it could be that it steers audiences away. Will it take down Pitch Perfect or will Mad Max’s word of mouth drive more people to the theatre to see it? Find out on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
