We all knew going into this weekend that The Fantastic Four was either going to be a sleeper hit despite what the critics had said, or fail miserably. It looks as though it’s the latter, because the film debuted in second place with $26.2million. With a budget that exceeded $120million, its doubtful that the film will even make it’s money back. If you’d like to read a good article about just what could have plagued this film, check out EW by clicking on the link. It goes in-depth to a tweet that director Josh Trank sent out when the terrible reviews hit last week.

In other good news, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation came in at #1 again with another $29.4million. The film continues to ride high and show that the franchise is something that Sony should be putting more of their money into, rather than Terminator. The other big film of the weekend is The Gift, which took in $12million. The film was probably made for that amount of money, which means it’ll end up with a decent haul and a slew of crappy direct-to-video sequels to follow. The rest of the Top Ten are below.

1. Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation $29.4 million

2. Fantastic Four $26.2 million

3. The Gift $12 million

4. Vacation $9.1 million

5. Ant-Man $7.8 million

6. Minions $7.4 million

7. Ricki and the Flash $7 million

8. Trainwreck $6.3 million

9. Pixels $5.4 million

10. Southpaw $4.8 million

Next week, we see the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton. After listening to the Dr. Dre album inspired by the film, I couldn’t be more excited to see how the movie turns out. As a fan of the group since I was a kid, the movie looks to be doing a good job and capturing some of the pioneers of rap. Will it end up at #1 though? Find out on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
