It’s good to be Adam Sandler and Sony right now. Their animated sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2, has taken the top spot at the Box Office this weekend and has partially redeemed them after a rough 2015. Sandler and Sony worked together previously this year with Pixels and he also produced Paul Blart 2; neither of which made the studio any money. Now, 3 years after the original, Hotel Transylvania 2 has premiered at $47.5 million and made it one of the highest opening weekends in a September release.

The other premieres of the week were The Intern with Robert De Niro and The Green Inferno by Eli Roth. The films took 2nd and 9th place respectively and proved that De Niro still has some staying power, while Roth didn’t generate the type of buzz with his film as was expected. It may have something the due with the fact the film was supposed to come out last year. One of big gamble, was studios decided to put Everest out in a limited run to IMAX theatres. The movie made $13.1 million and showed that it could go on to make a lot of money when it releases to a wider run. You can check out the rest of the Top Ten below.
