If you know me at all, you know all about my love for Amanda Palmer. It started about 5 years ago when I happened upon the song “Good Day” by The Dresden Dolls. I don’t want to say that I became obsessed, because that makes me sound like a crazy person, but that’s really the only way to describe it. I ran out and bought everything they had made. Their three albums, The 
Dresden Dolls, Yes Virginia and No Virginia are all three amazing, and you can hear them grow with each one.
The Dresden Dolls were formed in the year 2000, featuring Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione. The fact that this band consists of only two people is amazing, especially since all of their songs are so fleshed out. To think that (for the most part) it is only piano, drums and vocals is insane. Amanda Palmer has classified their music as Brechtian Punk Cabaret, mainly because she didn’t want anyone else to put a name to their inventive sound. And honestly, I haven’t heard anything like it, or anything that can compare to it. I listen to them and I sing, dance, laugh, cry, I get all the feels from it! To me, their music is perfect and they really don’t have a bad song. Sure, there’s a couple that I don’t like as much as some of the others, but I can’t think of one that I don’t like at all. Honestly, I don’t even skip a song when I’m listening to them.
Technically The Dresden Dolls went on hiatus in 2008, and though they’ve played together a few times since they haven’t released anything since No, Virginia. But, those of you in New York can rejoice, because this Saturday, April 18th they will be playing a FREE SHOW at Rough Trade Records in Brooklyn to celebrate Record Store Day! And it’s not only them, they’ll be playing with The Buzz Cocks and Kim Gordon (from Sonic Youth)! If you live in the area, you need to go to this show. It will be amazing and epic! Also, if you go, PLEASE send me some photos and give me a detailed description of everything that went on. This is one time I wish I lived in New York!
