It is a very good episode this week, where we get to see our favorite characters be put to the test and most of them fail.  Dell is back in this episode, as well as the Tattler Twins: Dot and Bette.  Elsa shows more of her backstabbing and betrayal when handling the issue of the Twins return, and we get to see more of Ethel’s strength of character being brought out after some very tragic news.  Jimmy steps up and delivers a strong performance when confronting Dell about certain sensitive issues.

Freak Show Test of Strength 01The Good

  • Dandy and Gloria Mott’s new purchase, the Twins, get rescued by Jimmy. The man-child is fuming so much that you can see steam coming out of his ears.
  • Penny finally gets the courage to leave her terrible father and live with Paul at the freak show, but not without a price.
  • Dell gets a major beat down by Amazon Eve when he tries to knock her out with chloroform. Stanley discovers Dell’s secret when he happens to see him at a gay bar a couple towns away from Jupiter.  He blackmails Dell into getting him a dead carnie or he will spill his secret to Elsa.
  • Dell finally reveals to Jimmy that he is his father, but Jimmy already figured it out quite awhile back. Ethel’s reaction to Dell’s arrival, and his old carnie troupe family history “The Toledo Lobster Boys”, (that was Dell’s relatives back in the day), is all the evidence Jimmy needed, but he wanted Dell to say it himself.
  • The Twins finally get a backbone and blackmail Elsa into their demands: fifty percent of the profits from the television show in Hollywood and a special operation done by a very specific doctor specializing in separating conjoining twins, and in return they will not tell the troupe about Elsa’s involvement in selling them to the Motts for cash.

The Bad

  • Tragic end to a very special little lady, Ma Petite. Dell decided to kill Ma Petite and give her to Stanley to silence him about Dell’s secret.
  • The local doctor willing to perform Desiree’s operation commits suicide after his brutal encounter with Dell in the last episode. The anger and animosity from the grieving daughter is evident when she screams “freak” and accuses them of killing him by taking away his surgeon hands.
  • Ethel is heartbroken to find the one person in town who felt compassion and understanding for her is gone.
  • Ethel finds out that Dell attacked Amazon Eve and Jimmy wanted to call the police, but she says this is an internal matter for them to deal with. She gives an emotional speech about how cruel the world is and we must protect our own
  • Bette looks silly dying her hair blonde, trying to look like a Hollywood star, and then she goes and insults Dot by suggesting her look can be used as a before and after
  • Penny’s father should be nominated for A-Hole of the year. He caught Penny trying to sneak out of the house to be with Paul.  He drugged her and has his very creepy tattoo friend severely disfigure her face before letting her go.  The father has to go; Paul and Penny need to get revenge.

Freak Show Test of Strength 02The American Morbidity Museum gets its first exhibit from Stanley.  I don’t know who is worst, Stanley for delivering the carnies for cash, or the proprietor who accepts them.  Do they know that these special people are being killed for their museum?  Elsa’s carnie troupe is slowly getting smaller.  Paul the Illustrated Seal feels totally responsible for Penny’s disfigurement.  Dell’s decision to kill Ma Petite weighs heavily on him.  His dark secret cost him a life, and that is going to bother him for a long time.  I hate Stanley; he is a weasel and a snake with no morals whatsoever.  Maggie is no better, but at least she didn’t kill anyone.  There may be hope for her yet.

And now something we think you’ll really enjoy…
