To know me, is to know that Buffy The Vampire Slayer is my favorite series of all time. I’ve watched it more times than I can count, and it started my love for everything Joss Whedon. I’ve been praying to the Old Gods for some time for the Buffster to make it to blu-ray, and though we’re getting a little closer, the results are something that I could never anticipate, or want.
Fox has recently decided to convert the series into HD, and the results are absolutely horrid. Thanks to ComicBook.com, we are going to share just some of the many mistakes that Fox is making.
Oh yeah, I remember that famous scene when the Scooby’s were in the library studying away, as a camera person watched them in a corner. Having the side of the screen be stretched out only adds to the charm of the show.
Don’t worry about the sunlight Angel, come on in. They may have brightened up the screens to present things in HD, but it’s less threatening that way, right?
This scene with Drusilla COULD have been dramatic, but instead has way less impact as it’s super zoomed in due to blowing up the screen to fit future televisions.
Here’s a video of the HD conversion.
Mr. Whedon himself is not satisfied with it, as you can see in a recent tweet.
Buffy was shot 4×3 cuz TVs were shaped that way. Widescreen Buffy is nonsense. (Firefly was shot wide – Fox cropped it.) #apsectratiowoes

I am still hoping for the Buffster on Blu, but I can hold out for it to actually look good. In the meantime, it’s streaming on Netflix and playing on my VHS player for years to come.
