This is the second part of the pilot.  The Raza crew finally know who they are and what their mission is.  Everyone is speechless as they absorb what they discover about themselves from the computer.  Their initial decision to help the colonists is unchanged, despite what Three (Sunshine) suggests they should do.  Even though their identities are revealed they still call themselves by their numerical positions.

Dark Matter 02Two (Boss Lady) explains that “no computer will tell her who she is”.  Five (Kid) still remains a mystery and she is starting to doubt her station among this crew.  Where does she fit in?  Where can she contribute?  Her abilities are a mystery to everybody, but she knows things about the ship and its crew.  Five tells Two that their stasis chambers were deliberately tampered with and their memories intentionally wiped.

One (Pretty Boy) is still convinced that they are here to help the colonists defend themselves from the Ferrous Corporation from taking away their homes.  But Two (Boss Lady) pulls rank and gives him a direct order to deliver the shipment and head on back to the Raza.  Their fighting and bickering feels like some form of foreplay between these two, but it is still early to tell.

Six (Tiny), Four (Slashy), Three (Sunshine), and One (Pretty Boy) make their way down to the planet and deliver the shipment of weapons to the colonists.  While most of the crew are on the surface, a Ferrous Corporation Destroyer, Deliverance, arrives and immediately launches a shuttle to the surface.  Two tries to warn them but no one is there to receive it.  The Marauder crew finds out that a shuttle has landed near the colony.  One (Pretty Boy) decides to fight with the colonists.  The rest of the crew joins in and a fire fight begins with the Ferrous Corporate guards.  While this is happening, Two and the Android get a visit from Commander Nieman of the Ferrous Corporation Galactic Combine.  He wants to know why the Raza has not finished their mission.  Two tries to tell the Commander that things have changed and they are not going to help the Ferrous Corporation eliminate the miners.  The Commander tries to entice Two with another deal by giving her lots of money and just fly away and not look back.  Two asks him how much.

Back on the surface, the crew realizes that the Ferrous Corporation is not done with this fight and tries to convince the miners to leave before more Corporate Guards arrive.  Four gets the idea to interrogate a surviving Ferrous guard into divulging what the Corporation has planned.  With a little forceful incentive, the guard tells Four that the Raza crew would do the dirty work and the Corporation would claim plausible deniability.   The Ferrous Corporation are also supposed to sabotage the main reactor to make it look like an accidental explosion that will destroy the colony.  The crew goes back to the Marauder and discovers that the Raza is not in orbit.  They are stuck on the planet with more troops coming down very soon.  They stand and fight with the colonists one more time.

The Marauder crew and the colonists put up a good fight, but it ends with many casualties including the leader of the colonists, Nassan.  Dark Matter 01The Raza returns with reinforcements of two very large cruiser class vessels and gives the Commander of the Ferrous Corporation a warning that the miners are now protected by the Mikkei Combine.  The colonists sign a deal with the Mikkei Combine for a ninety-nine year lease for the mining colony, giving them protection against any aggressors that would try to take the mines.

In the end, the Raza crew saves the day, and puts a dent in the Ferrous Corporations armor.  Back on the ship, Two (Boss Lady) asks Five (The Kid) about her dreams or memories she mentioned earlier.  Five tells Two that she remembers waking up in the middle of the night and installing a computer virus on their stasis chambers, wiping out their memories.  Five says that these are not her memories, and that is someone else’s, and she is just seeing it through their eyes.  Two asks her why would somebody want to wipe our memories.  Five tells her that we are dangerous.

The mystery deepens for the Raza crew.  The big metal door in the underbelly of the ship is still locked and the box which Four has found earlier, is opened with a ring inside, still doesn’t give us any answers.  It is unclear if the crew will still use their numerical designation throughout the series or will they start calling each other by their real names.  I think that using numbers for their identification is way of starting over, having a clean slate and looking towards the future, but it is not always that simple.  The past will always catch up to you.
