This week Dutch and Johnny go after a Find and Retrieve Warrant issued by one of Johnny’s friend, N’Oa for her Westerlyn husband whose off-world work visa is about to expire. D’Avin makes a new friend who happens to be exactly what he needs in order to fully become a Killjoy.
- D’Avin gets accepted into the Reclamation Acquisition Center, and is ranked a Level Four Killjoy. That is one step higher than Johnny. D’Avin just needs to pass a psych evaluation to complete his application.
- D’Avin befriends a doctor, Dr. Pawter who uses questionable tactics to treat her patients. D’Avin is intrigued by her methods and logic,that he asks her if she will be willing to do the psych evaluation for his application as a Killjoy.
- Johnny poses as a migrant worker on the moon planet Leith at a Hokking Harvest Farm to find Vincent Sh’ao, his mark. Dutch goes undercover as a Company Hokk distributor working for the Nines.
- The Nines refer to the nine ruling families on Qresh and the Quad.
- Johnny discovers that these migrant workers are treated like force laborers, and finds Vincent secretly growing the drug called Jakk in the surrounding forest. He also is fighting the unfair treatment of the migrant workers by the Leith’s Hokking Farms.
- These migrant workers are forced to wear incendiary trackers to keep them in line. If anyone tries to leave before their work permit is up, they die.
- Johnny painfully removes his ear where the deadly tracking device is located in order to stop Vincent and bring him back to the RAC.
- D’Avin mysterious past surfaces when he is with Dr. Pawter at a Leith’s Bazaar. D’Avin tells the doctor that he is looking for an Army doctor who treated him during the war.
- The owner of the Hokking Farm discovers Vincent’s hideout and operation and orders fire ships to destroy it.
- Dutch and Johnny are able to escape with Vincent and meet up with D’Avin and their ship Lucy.
- Back on the RAC prison ship, Vincent gets a semi warm welcome by his wife N’Oa. She hugs him then slaps him across the face for causing her a lot grief and off-world hopping. Then tells Dutch and Johnny to take him away. Vincent’s off world visa expired while leaving Leith and the Company issued a new warrant for illegal emigration. The punishment is ten years hard labor.
- Johnny and Dutch air out some issues related to recent events. Dutch reassures Johnny that he is a very important part of their team, and that D’Avin will never come between them.
- Johnny asks Dutch about the Red Box, she just says that if she tells him their partnership will be in danger, but she also promises from now on, no more secrets.
This week definitely has a much lighter tone than the last few episodes. More of the Quad’s moon planets societal customs are revealed. The relationship between D’Avin and Dutch and Johnny is still murky, but they are starting to work as a team. Dutch still hides behind a brick wall about her past, but I think it will start to come down eventually.
