After a long wait, Dejobaan Games has released Elegy for a Dead World!

You may recall that I merely overheard the concept behind this game at PAX East 2014 and made a mental and physical note to keep my eyes and ears out for this game.

You may also recall that we got our paws on an alpha release of the game, which while admittedly a bit rough, played awesomely well. (Fancy a trip back in time? Check out that review here.)

They also launched and were successful in funding a Kickstarter earlier this year to help with development.

The title, which may no be for everyone, goes on the premise that you are the sole survivor of a mission to explore strange new worlds and dead civilizations. Only catch is, you were only supposed to record, and you’re never going home.

Released on December 10th to the masses, the game has undergone a beautiful transformation. Much of the nuts and bolts are the same, but the execution and the UI have benefitted from a bit more time, a bit more polish.

The game provides multiple prompts for you to fill in the blanks in either prose or poetry forms. Once complete, you can upload these for other people to see. You also have the option of going it alone and just writing whatever you want, seeing where the graphics take you.

You may never been Hemmingway but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be!

The graphics are still stunningly beautiful, but now there are environmental elements as well. Rain falling and hitting your screen. Animals roaming in the background and actually moving. Beautiful.

The actual experience of reviewing your composition is also new. There is a summary of what you’ve created in a story format, complete with pictures. Also uploading your piece is optional, which was one of the things I had requested and am delighted they included in the final build.

Here you get to use all of those revision skills you learned in school and vowed you would never need again.

The game retails for $14.99 on Steam.

A review copy of the game was furnished by the publisher at no charge. Opinions of the title are solely those of the author and are not influenced by the publisher or any outside party.
