While Fallout 4 will be in our hands before the end of 2015 (thanks Bethesda!), five months can be an eternity while you are waiting for a new game.

Recognizing we still have a lot of time to kill, here are a few games that have given me comfort, strength, and a worthy distraction that may help you as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of the nuclear apocalypse. Or at least the game set after it.

Fallout Shelter – Available for iOS and made by the same company that will be taking our money very soon, this game is very similar to Tiny Tower, Tiny Death Star and others, in which you build your vault. So far, Vault 585 is struggling, but I’ll hopefully have it mastered by November.

And I would be doing you a disservice if I did not at least mention Fallout 3, the installment in the series that got me hooked many moons ago. Though it won’t work on current-gen consoles (and, according to Steam, not officially on Windows 7 and newer), if you happen to have an older console collecting dust, there’s no time like the present!

Thanks to the internet, you can also get your radiation mitts on Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics, in the event you are a completionist and need the whole series. I wouldn’t blame you. These games are much beloved (if maybe a little dated in the graphics).

The months will fly by with these and a few bottles of Nuka-cola at your side. This series has brought me, and a few other Towelites, a lot of joy over the years and we’re just as eager as you are to see Fallout 4 this Fall.
