Mobile gaming is growing in popularity everyday. 2014 saw some groundbreaking games hit the small screen. But 2015 looks to go even deeper into the experience mobile gaming has to offer. If you’re looking to jump into mobile gaming in a real way, here are some tips to get you started.

What Phone?

There are a lot of phones out there. Some are better for gaming than others, so how do you know if you’re getting the phone that best fits your needs? For the serious gamer the Sony Xperia Z3v is a great option as it can sync to your PS4 via Wi-Fi. With the TRILUMINOS display it delivers rich colors at a crystal clear resolution. This Android smartphone comes with a Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5 GHz processor, which will make your games run smoothly no matter what you’re playing.

Another option is the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. This phone has the highest pixel count of any Samsung phone. The Note 4 also has a multi-window feature, which allows you to have two apps open on the same screen so you can text or chat with friends without interrupting your games.

What Games?

There are a host of highly anticipated games coming in 2015. And after seeing the status of mobile gaming in 2014, there’s no wonder. With games like The Banner Saga and Monument Valley testing the limits last year, 2015 just looks to blow that away.

First up is Project Phoenix. It’s is getting a lot of hype because of the developers involved. Team members who have worked on blockbuster games like Diablo III, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, and Final Fantasy are attached to the squad-based real-time strategy game. Another highly anticipated game is Albion Online. This classless MMO role-playing game will allow everyone to play together regardless of platform. At the moment Albion Online is slated for release later in 2015, but you can get access to the alpha on its their website.

Staying Safe

Mobile gaming comes with plenty of risks. From being pick-pocketed while on the bus, to data theft while online. The more you use your phone for online purchases the more you put yourself at risk.

It’s a good idea to put a number code or swipe-lock on your phone. When you’re gaming in public, be aware of your surroundings. Always know where your wallet is and keep your purse in your lap or put your foot through the strap of your backpack.

Data theft is the biggest danger when using your phone for purchases, and with so many in-app game purchases, it’s important to proceed with caution. Remember to buy your games and apps from trusted and secure app stores. iTunes keeps a tight hold on what can be loaded onto its mobile devices, but Android has more freedom and many third-party app stores available. Watch out for popular games that are offered by third-party app stores, particularly those discounted or free. Hackers can deconstruct an app, load malware into it and then capture your personal information.
