Short and sweet is how this week seems to be playing out. That being said, let me explain to you in depth the sociopolitical climate of post 9/11 United States. Ha! Just kidding! Seriously, I mean who cares about that stuff? Duh, people don’t care about anything but comic books. 100% fact. -Top of the Stack 2015.
Batman and Robin Eternal #10 (Marvel)
Jackson Lanzing/Collin Kelly (W) Roge Antonio/ Geraldo Borges (A)
This series is really freaking cool. So far, it’s been more consistent than Batman Eternal in terms of interesting issues and not having the plot drag out. Also, you know, making a Batman story that has more Robin in it than the big B himself. Interesting choice, very well done. Beers all around.
Constantine: The Hellblazer #7 (DC)
Ming Doyle (W) Riley Rossmo (A)
FINALLY! We get a Swamp Thing issue. I have been super excited about this. Not only was Swamp Thing the comic that introduced Constantine, but this issue we get to see Rossmo’s Swamp Thing. That in itself is worth the three bucks.
Trees #13 (Image)
Warren Ellis (W) Jason Howard (A)
Things are starting to come together. Answers are starting to seem close. Sentences short. Word.
Spider-Gwen #3 (Marvel)
Jason Latour (W) Robbi Rodriguez (A)
It’s really not hard to see why this character has blown up so much. I mean it’s rare to make something that connects so much with the fanbase. What’s that phrase? Electricity in a small container? Something like that. Anyway, this series is no joke. Read it.
All-New Hawkeye #2 (Marvel)
Jeff Lemire (W) Ramon K. Perez (A)
So, you kinda have to have read the last series to understand this one. I can only imagine in a few years when people attempt to read the volumes from issue one, things are going to get really confusing. Damn you Marvel and your pandering to those with short attention spans.
We Stand On Guard #6 of 6 (Image)
Brian K. Vaughan (W) Steve Skroce (A)
It’s over! I only realized in the last two months that this comic was going to be a short series. I am a little disappointed, but I really love when stories are short and sweet. It’s the completionist in me.
Secret Wars #8 of 9 (Marvel)
Jonathan Hickman (W) Esad Ribic (A)
Okay, so this was supposed to be the end. BUT NOOO! HICKMAN CAN’T WRITE A SHORT STORY. I jest. Seriously though, it’s looking like Secret Wars won’t be finished until next year. Sad, but it is what it is. I’m just excited to see the end.
Batman #47 (DC)
Scott Snyder (W) Greg Capullo (A)
Holy shit. The last issue had me gasping at the final pages. I am hooked. I mean if you couldn’t already tell by my persistent gushing. This comic speaks to me.
So there. Just the good ones. Basically. I mean with the exception of all the other good ones that didn’t come out this week. Who was counting those anyway? Oh, Joe was? Well, fuck him.
