Thrones… the seat for kings, villains and those holding great power, in which a mere chair just would not do.
I was recently texting with Casey and Chris, and somewhere along the way I mentioned the Gods of Olympus, which lead to Casey mentioning the Ghost of Sparta (for those of you who don’t know, that’s Kratos from the God of War games). I immediately thought of this figurine I kinda want (but not willing to spend the high price for it).
The throne brought about a reaction from Casey, one of King Conan…
And Chris follows up with the bad ass Riddick!
And so began our conversation of “thrones”. So lets start of with the throne of all thrones, the Iron Throne.
Made of the swords of fallen enemies, this was a dangerous throne to sit on. As great as they made it for HBO’s Game of Thrones, the writer himself, George RR Martin had some concept artist draw it up they way he imagined it always looked…
Personally, from reading the books, I always had the impression it was somewhere in between the two.
With Game of Thrones season 5 premiering in a couple weeks, we figured this would be a great time to look back at all the famous thrones from our past. Check out some of the comic influenced ones below including Thanos, Ultron, Aquaman, Loki, Spawn and Magneto.
Speaking of comic thrones, does Batman’s bat-cave chair count?
Cause I know Joker’s should count!
Comics brought back memories of all the cartoons I grew up with, so here are some classic thrones from the olden days, including Megatron, Skeletor, Mumm-Ra, and Cobra.
Then you have some thrones that may or may not qualify as a”throne”. Does C3PO’s count? (the one the Ewoks made him)?
Speaking of game of thrones, does the Three-Eyed Crow, living in the tree, roots and branches growing through him… does that count?
What about Walter White? He was a king in his own way, no?
Or how about Akira, where at the end of the film, sits in his own version of a throne, a cape wrapped around him. His body mutating… his hand growing into the stone itself!
I think we can all agree, one of the greatest thrones, is that of an emperors… and there is only one person who comes to mind when I think emperor!
That’s it from us! Any thrones you remember that we forgot to mention? Sound off in the comments!
