I always think it’s pretty amazing when a company expands its brand into different media outlets. Borderlands is already a super-successful video game franchise which now has an action figure line from NECA and a comic series by IDW. Now 2K, Gearbox and Academy of Art University in San Francisco are teaming up to release a series of three short films based on the world titled Borderlands-Tales from HQ! These three animated shorts will be available this month on YouTube. Check out the blurb from the official 2K Blog!
[box_light]Earlier this year, 2K, Gearbox Software, and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco announced Borderlands Cooperative, an exciting partnership that, for the last eight months, has provided students of the university with once-in-a-lifetime career development opportunities. This real-world scenario has challenged students to work together, make the most of limited in-game assets, overcome obstacles, and deliver on deadlines. As part of the career development opportunities, 2K brought two of the Academy of Art University’s talented students on-board as summer interns, and one of those interns stayed on as a full-time employee.[/box_light]
Check out one of the finalists Leslie Harwood’s short “Bride of Frankentrap“! Shown below is the original storyboard animation, rough cut of animation, and an screen-cap of what the final polished look of the short will look like!

Stay tooned 😉
