The first trailer for Syfy‘s television adaptation of Lev Grossman‘s novel, The Magicians is out and it looks fantastic! It doesn’t look like it’s entirely accurate, but it does look really good. I love the casting for Quentin and Elliot, I think they both fit the roles perfectly. I will say though, some of what I’ve noticed kind of makes me a little upset. It seems that they’ve changed Janet’s name to Margo, which is fine, I did sometimes get her and Julia confused when reading the books. But, when I went on IMDB to see who the rest of the cast was, I noticed that there’s no mention of Alice or Josh at all. I can see them taking Josh out, that’s really no big deal, but Alice? How can they take Alice out? She’s essential to the story.
From what I’ve seen in the trailer it seems like they’ve taken the premise of the book and made it something different. Almost like what they did with True Blood on HBO. The books were always used as a sort of foundation to the story on the show, but they did their own thing with the show itself.
Regardless, I can’t wait until this comes out in 2016! You can bet I’ll be watching it.
Take a look at the trailer and tell us what you think. And if you haven’t read the books, and want to read something like Harry Potter meets Narnia with more sex and swearing, make sure you do. They’re awesome and fun, and make for a great summer read.
