What if Guillermo del Toro took on a DC Comics project that took the most obscure characters from DC’s stable? How AWESOME would that be?? A rumor circled around the interwebs last week regarding a team-up movie, called Heaven Sent teaming up all of the great DC Comics supernatural characters, like Deadman, the Spectre, Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon and Etrigan the Demon. Del Toro had this to say recently in regards to who said what:
“Wow- please contact whoever said I denied it. I cannot recall ever answering a question like that. Sadly I dont do tweeter. I denied being involved in JLA but this [Heaven Sent] I would love to do!!! I am talking to DC and Warners about tackling the ‘Dark universe’ characters, but we’re not calling it [Heaven Sent]. I don’t know where this title came from. We have a very concrete storyline that I’m proposing — but it’s still very, very early days.”
The only thing that worries me now about any DC projects is that recent news from the LA Times reports that a power struggle at Warner Bros may be slowing down the production of ANY new superhero movies. Here is the only bit of information that is relative to our nerdy needs:
“The turf skirmishes have slowed development of movies based on Warner-owned DC’s superheroes such as the Flash at a time when rival Marvel Entertainment is cranking out blockbusters like “The Avengers.” Uncertainty about who will run Warner Bros. has stymied the studio from renewing its important deal with finance and producing partner Legendary Pictures. The deal expires at the end of next year.”
So time will tell…but I will laugh quite loudly if this supernatural DC project happens before a regular Justice League movie.
Stay tooned 😛
