This is the last episode before the season finale and it’s a whopper. The Abbey is becoming unhinged now that Michael is no longer leading his flock. With Peter and Ann taking control of the Abbey, Sara and Kyle along with Soren try to escape and leave the island. Julia and Alan are searching for the Mother Tree in the hope that she can find something to save the world from Ilaria’s genocidal plan.
The Good
- Peter has gone megalomaniacal mad and claims himself to be the new leader of the Abbey. He intends to cleanse the world of its sickness. He sheds his former name as Peter Farragut and is now called Eli.
- Soren’s mom, Olivia, warns Kyle of Eli’s plan to cleanse the Abbey of the outsiders, the CDC and anyone else who doesn’t fit in Eli’s utopia. Unfortunately she gets killed by Eli because of her betrayal to him. Soren watches his mom die right in front of him while he is hiding.
- The tempo and the feel of this episode is tense and fast pace. The CDC are like mice in a maze trying to escape death that awaits them.
- Sara forces Ann to help find equipment for her baby to survive. Sara finds the birthing chamber and forces Ann to free the unwilling mothers from their makeshift birthing labor beds. Sara then cuts off a couple Ann’s toes out of anger.
- Julia and Alan find the Mother Tree. They discover that the Tree has been under the Abbey all this time. Julia is elated to find all the necessary ingredients from the Mother Tree to continue Michael’s infertility work. Alan fears that Julia has succumbed to the evilness of Ilaria and has to be stopped. He pulls a gun on Julia, but she responds by pulling a gun at him as well. The scene goes black and all you hear is a gunshot.
The Bad
- Peter’s transformation from the good doctor to fanatical leader is a little far fetch. He is more like a jilted lover and a sibling with a grudge against his brother. I thought he was stronger that, and let Ann influence him to do her bidding.
- Where is Amy? Is she dead or worse?
- Are we going to see what happened to Michael in the season finale?
- It seems like Sara is the only one cares about the well-being of her baby.
This week the doctors from the CDC are fighting for their lives from Eli and Ann’s followers. The deadline for Ilaria’s genocidal plan to initiate is only one day away, and Julia is running out of time. Eli is doing everything he can to prevent anybody from leaving the island. Julia and Alan don’t see eye to eye about the Mother Tree and its uses. Next week is the season finale, we shall see how this is going to play out.
