This week the show digs into our primal nature and delivers a great episode.  Leo is getting one step closer to finding Mia (Anita).  Niska gets her frustration out, and the Hawkins family is dealing with a few issues of their own.

  • Laura wants to know more about Anita’s strange behavior, after Mattie told her that she got scared. One of Laura’s case involves a woman and her Synth that were kicked out of a play simply because Synth’s are not allowed in the theatre.  The woman, Ms. Kennedy claims that Howard, her Synth is much more than an appliance.  He can understand and enjoy certain human entertainments like music and theatre.
  • While Laura is away, Joe will play. He takes Anita and enters in a program that makes her more willing and passionate toward her primary user.  He has sex with her and then commands her not to tell anyone about this.  Laura is so preoccupied with her mission to find out more about Anita that he reaches out to next closest thing for companionship, Anita.
  • Toby is getting more infatuated with Anita. He turns down a girl that likes him and tells her that he is spoken for.
  • Mattie sees how a Synth is being used and abused at a high school party and stops it.
  • Peter’s wife leaves him because of his hatred for Simon, their Synth. He ends up bunking with his police partner, Karen Voss.
  • Niska finds an underground smash club where Synths are being used as punching bags for humans that wish to vent out there frustration, anger, and hatred toward them. Pretending to be human, Niska is able to get in inside, but turns the tables on the humans, injuring many of them.
  • Answering Mattie’s help on the Internet about her Synth, Leo and Max meet up with her trying to confirm if it is Mia.. While looking at Anita/Mia’s root code Max discovers something strange in her programming.  They go the one person they believe can help them, Dr. George Millican, one the founding scientist on the Synth Project.
  • George finds out that Leo is actually Leo Elster, Dr. David Elster’s son. But that’s impossible because his son died many years ago.  Leo is a fully functional sentient Synth that Dr. David Elster created after his real son’s death.
  • Leo discovers that his maker, Dr. Elster has put a hidden program in each of them: Max. Mia, Leo and Niska to make them and every other Synth to be full sentient, but they need to be together to activate it.
  • Joe is scared that Laura might find out what he and Anita did when she tells him that she wants to get Anita a thorough diagnostic to find out what is going with her and who she really is. They find out that Anita is not brand new, but very old and modified.  She is about fourteen years old.
  • After Peter goes to sleep at Karen’s house. She mysteruosly pulls out a bag of full of liquid from her mouth.  It seems Karen is a Synth in hiding.  Is she another fully sentient Synth that Dr. Elster created?

This episode explores how the humans treat and feel about the Synths, both good and bad ways.  Mattie begins to understand that Synths are not just appliances, but robots that have the capability to be so much more.  Niska is falling into a hole that she is having trouble digging herself out of, and Laura’s feeling towards Anita is becoming more of compassion and curiosity than animosity.  Leo’s mysterious past is revealed but leads to more questions, and Peter’s partner is a sentient Synth.
