So I had a little trouble tracking this one down at first. As a collector and amateur toy hunter, it’s always interesting to see which sets sell better than the others. This one was hard to find in stores and online at first, but LEGO Shop has it IN STOCK now. So if you’re still looking, that’s one of your best options. The toughest one to find apparently is the Braniac set, which I did find in store (so keep your eyes peeled) and will be reviewing sometime in the near future. But on to this set! Green Lantern vs Sinestro!
This was the first set that LEGO previewed from the recently released series. LEGO really let us have it in terms of Minifigures this time around! With the largest set being Darkseid Invasion (priced at about $65), this is a pretty affordable wave. But are the blocks you get worth the bucks you spend? So far I have to say, YES. You can check out my review of the Darkseid set here, both sets are an impressive lot. Once again, here’s another example of a new set that includes, until now a very hard-to-find Minifigure, Green Lantern. Now I’m sure that the Green Lantern that was created in 2011 was influenced by the movie look, and I am glad that they updated Hal to be more like his comic book visage, heck even the animated movie counterpart. He did appear in the LEGO movie afterall!
Don’t forget that previously the only way to get your hands on a Green Lantern was one of the following:
-
You attended SDCC 2011 or NYCC 2011 and got lucky enough buy the ALL of the figures you could get your hands on.
-
You are rich and bought one off of EBAY.
-
You bought some bootleg version, and let me tell you, there were some interesting assortments…
Before we geek out about Minifigures too much, let’s check out the packaging first. Then we can talk about why this set is so impressive.
Whatever exotic means of acquiring this figure the hunters were using, have now ended, as LEGO finally released a new Minifigure, and that’s not even the best part! To battle your do-gooders the villain included is Sinestro! A Sinestro Minifigure! Sometimes I have to take a second…. Awesome set. Awesome price. Especially considering there is one more figure, Space Batman. Featuring duds from his latest LEGO video game outing, this Batman is a great figure to add to your growing collection! You’re gonna need a bigger Batcave for all those suits! Just like the Hawkman figure from the Darkseid set, Batman’s “wings” are a newly designed flexible-plastic piece that comes in two different sizes. Allowing your figure to be in flying or standing modes. This is a really nice improvement from LEGO and makes display and play more authentic. Especially with their new “Super Jumper” feature, a “springing”accessory that allows you to send your Minifigures “flying” into battle!

This is the smallest set of the bunch, but don’t think that means it’s not a lot of fun! First thing you build is Sinestro’s trap with the Green Lantern’s power battery. The main build of this set is Green Lantern’s jet. Hal Jordan is a pilot so the plane makes sense. Also giving the jet a feel of being a “ring construct” works as well, so I have no complaints about what is included. I really appreciate that LEGO puts thought into the development of what vehicles go with which figures, they make sense and truly provide an enjoyable play experience.
The full build took me about 30 minutes. This is a great set for adults and kids alike. One thing that really stuck out, was the original pieces that LEGO created for this set. Both the Yellow and Green Lantern symbols are not stickers, but printed onto their respective LEGO piece. The overall quality of these sets is getting better and better over time and that is a great thing for collectors. I also praise the company for taking risks and releasing sets with characters besides just Batman and Superman. Though you will see the “big two” throughout this release, just take a look at who else is on board this time around! It’s a great time to be a comic book fan and toy collector!
I am looking forward to Brainiac and hopefully getting my hands on the other two sets. Keep it tooned here to DFAT and The Toy Chest for future reviews!
