From childhood, LEGO has been one of my favorite toy companies out there. But what LEGO didn’t have when I was a kid was the rights to create sets based on some of the most amazing licenses on the market today. We were lucky enough to be granted access to their Toy Fair booth at this year’s show and we had a blast geeking out and looking at the awesome sets that they will be releasing over the year.
So let’s get this party started with one of their biggest success stories and partnerships, Star Wars! For sixteen years the Force has been with LEGO as they have not only put out a gazillion sets, but at the same time improved the look of the characters and the quality of the overall product. Check out what’s already hitting shelves and what’s to come from that Galaxy far, far away!
LEGO somehow got two of the powerhouse comic companies to partner with them to make their Super Heroes line. The sets from both DC Comics and Marvel this year are “super” impressive! The latest wave of DC Comics Super Heroes sets have already hit stores but there’s another “larger” set that will be released later in the year, which also gets you one step closer to completing your Teen Titan team! Check out the BIG Jokerland playset!
Avengers: Age of Ultron is on every geek’s mind and LEGO is ready to submit to Ultron’s rule, as we all are, when the merchandising monster starts hitting stores. I personally can’t wait to get my hands on these sets as I was a really big fan of the ones based on the first film. Check out the plethora of sets that we will be seeing closer to the film’s release! LEGO will also do a set based on the other Marvel Studios film in theaters this summer, Ant-Man. It is great to see merchandise being based around an obscure property like that, but hey look at Guardians of the Galaxy! We will also be seeing more Spider-Man sets this year. Adding more and more villains to your growing collection!
This summer we will return to Isla Nublar when the Jurassic Park franchise is reignited with the highly anticipated sequel, Jurassic World! Chris Pratt is no stranger to the world of LEGO, he recently revealed his minifigure online before the show, but this is the first time that we saw these amazing sets in any kind of official capacity. Including the new, hybrid, Indominus Rex! Which if I may say so myself looks completely insane and I can’t wait to see this monster on the big screen and the more and more I hear about it the more pumped I am for this film! LEGO has dibbled and dabbled in the dino-world previously, but this will be the first time that they are taking on the Jurassic Park franchise! Check out Emmet, I mean Chris Pratt and his Raptor taming ways in these awesome building sets!
Previously announced, but now fully on display, was LEGO’s latest acquirement Scooby Doo. The sets are sure to be super popular with kids and classic fans alike. From the classic Mystery Machine to some of the locations straight from the cartoon, these beauties will be flying off the shelves! Look for WB Entertainment to also release animated short specials and movies based on the hit sets soon!
That about wraps up our coverage of LEGO’s spectacular licensed themed sets coming out this year! Of course with a little movie called Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hitting theaters this winter, we’ll be seeing sets based on this very hush-hush movie. Also keep it tooned to DFAT for our LEGO reviews, you can check out our past ones here.
