So we FINALLY have news on who will be playing Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man of Steel 2, aka Batman Vs Superman, and that will be Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network). I really don’t know what to think of the casting because it really took me by surprise today! Rumored before today were Bryan Cranston and Joaquin Phoenix, two actors that I would have rather seen in the role of one of my favorite comic book characters of all time, but for now I am going to leave this one alone. Maybe its a sign that I am getting old and Eisenberg, now age 30, is a good fit for the role, who knows how he tested for it, he could be brilliant for all we know! Here’s what director Zack Snyder had to say from a press release regarding the choice:
[box_light]“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”[/box_light]
Another role has been filled today and that is the part of Bruce Wayne’s faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth, which will be played by thespian actor Jeremy Irons (The Lion King). The part has been played by Michael Gough and Michael Caine in the last two portrayals of the character. What do you think Towelites about these two actors landing the roles in the next big DC Comics movie?! Sound off in the comments section below!
Man of Steel 2, Batman Vs Superman, or whatever this movie is going to be called will be out in 2016.
