Top Ten Most Anticipated Movies of 2014
May contain Spoilers
#10 – Sin City 2 A Dame To Kill For
Release Date – August 22nd 2014
Plot – Very similar to the first movie “Sin City”, the sequel is made up of four different mini films. Staring Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and returns from Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba and Mickey Rourke among others this movie follows the story of Frank Millers second book in the Sin City series with shorts named “A Dame to Kill For”, “Just Another Saturday Night”, “The Long Bad Night”, and an untitled original story based after Hartigan’s (Bruce Willies) suicide from the original movie.
Why we can’t wait – There are really two main reasons why this sequel is so anticipated. Number one, the first one was done very well. It stayed pretty true to the graphic novel and we LOVED the fact they kept it black and white (and red) only. Number two, it’s Frank Miller, arguably one of the most popular graphic novel writers ever and for good reason. An rather than just buying the rights to the movie and taking a giant dump on it and its fans, Hollywood kept Frank Miller on not only as a screenplay writer but also as a director. Could they finally be listening…?
#9 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Release Date – August 8th 2014
Plot – The plot has been pretty hush hush. What we do know is that it involves an alien invasion, which is rumored to be the new origin story behind the Ninja Turtle who rise up to defend humans against the invasion. Shredder will return as well.
Why we can’t wait – Come on, it’s the Ninja Turtles! I have limited faith in Nickelodeon, but as long as they keep to the same idea of the original films and don’t get TO creative on the origin story or character development it should be worth watching at least. Not a big fan of the alien origin story, but let’s give it a chance. Here’s hoping Megan Fox does ruin this like she ruined Jonah Hex.
#8 – Godzilla
Plot – “An epic rebirth” we will be the judge of that. This “rebirth” is set to pit the legendary monster Godzilla against “malevolent” (had to look it up – defined as having or showing a wish to do evil to others) creatures who come to life through human scientific experiments
Why we can’t wait – Despite the rocky start this film has had, (originally having a 2012 release date) in addition to Joseph Gordon-Levitt turning down the starting and let’s not forget the last Godzilla movie (Thanks Ferris) we are still optimistic about this one. Based on the plot summary and some information from Comic-Con it seems they are doing a classic Godzilla movie (Monster Versus Monster) with new age graphics and technology. Should be fun to watch
#7 – Fast & Furious 7
Release Date – April 10th, 2015 (Sorry, the list was made before the rescheduling)
Plot – Picking up right where the last one left off, Owen Shaw’s older brother Ian wants revenge for Dominic (Vin Diesel) and his crew killing his brother. So Dominic must put his crew in danger one more time in order to stop this new threat before it gets to them first.
Why we can’t wait – The Fast & Furious franchise has had its ups and downs not just in sales (Tokyo drift) but also with the death of their star Paul Walker (R.I.P.). But we can’t help but wonder what the impact of that will be on the script and filming of the movie. In addition to the trend of sky rocketing box office success for movies that are being filmed during an actor’s untimely death (The Crow, Dark Knight, etc.) And we all know Hollywood would never exploit that…right?
#6 – Transformers 4 Age of Extinction
Plot – We don’t know much detail on fourth installment in this popular movie franchise, but what we do know revolves around a mechanic and is daughter making a discovery that now only draw the attention of the Autobots and Decepticons, but also the federal government as well.
Why we can’t wait – With very few actors or robots for that matter returning for this installment is feels more like a reboot then a forth in the series. Can’t say that we are sad to see Shia Labeouf leave, but we are happy that Michael Bay stayed on and very excited to see what Mark Wahlberg will do to help save us against the invading robots.
#5 – Captain America 2 The Winter Soldier
Plot – After being frozen for 50+ years Steve Rogers (Captain America) struggles to find his place in this new world while battling the Winter Soldier.
Why we can’t wait – First, it can’t be much worse than the first one. Second, THE WINTER SOLDIER! He is a ruthless assassin for the Soviet Union who has a bionic arm and lives in cryogenics between missions. In one story line it is revealed that he aided in the escape of Wolverine from the Weapon X laboratory, and late killed Wolverine’s wife and unborn child. Do we smell a cross over movie?!
#4 – Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Plot – If you haven’t seen Rise, go now and see it…now…right now! Eight years after the first movie the tables have turned slightly on the human race. With genetically evolved apes growing in numbers and being led by Caesar and the number of humans alive after the virus at the end of the first movie low, the two sides reach a fragile peace which is short lived. Now on the brink of war, it is time to determine who will be the dominate species.
Why we can’t wait – I must admit, this is my personal number 1. I have always been a huge fan of the originals and watching the remake of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (because we just ignore the one with Mark Wahlberg in it! *you disappointed me Mark!*) was unreal. I love the direction they are taking these movies, with staying true to the original story while also giving their own twist. Take notes Hollywood!
#3 – The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Plot – Peter Parker has his work cut out for him. As he (still) tries to balance his high school life with his life as a super hero, in addition to trying to figure out his father’s past and trying to fight Electro and Rhino. He does discover one connection between them all…OsCorp.
Why we can’t wait – Spider-man was every kids favorite at one time or another. He is someone you can relate to, a nerdy high school kid (who gains super human powers?) and anytime we get to see him on the big screen it’s hard not to be excited. Plus we get to see some new villains. HOWEVER we are a little nervous that they are putting to many characters in one movie and for those of us who remember (despite trying to forget) Spider-man 3 it seems like a case of Deja Vu.
#2 – The Hobbit 3 There and Back Again
Release Date – December 17th 2014
Plot – Thorin has reached the lair of Smaug and the only thing that stands in their path is Bilbo and the Dwarves. Will they be able to reclaim Erebor and the treasure, and if they can will they are able to keep it and their lives?
Why we can’t wait – The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings franchises have been every nerds wet dream. It mixes magic, adventure, fantasy and the battle of good and evil. The first Hobbit movie received mixed reviews, but with the over whelming positive reaction of the second one, the third is set to be huge. Wonder what will come after?
#1 – X-Men Days of Future Past
Release Date – May 23rd 2014
Plot – The X-men send Wolverine to the past in order to save the future. An event in the future which will lead to the destruction of both human and mutant alike can only be prevented with the characters of two time period teaming up to fight for the survival of their species.
Why we can’t wait – Starting in 2000 with “X-men” the franchise has spanned 14 years and spawned 5 different movies, 2 spin-offs and the title of the 15th highest-grossing film franchise ever, and that’s just so far. With X-men Days of Future Past and X-men Apocalypse both green lit, who knows where this franchise will end. One thing is for sure, this title looks to add another heather in the franchise cap.
Honorable Mention – 300: Rise of an Empire
Release Date – March 7th 2014
How the eff is Guardians of the Galaxy NOT on this list!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Obereon! I thought I would fix a slight error you made.
#0 – Guardians of the Galaxy

Everything awesome happens. The most important movie since that crappy one Edison made.
Why we can’t wait: Because we have pulses.
There, that fixed it.
