Towelites we are nearing the beginning of the next phase of DFAT and so this column is being reborn as the Pursuit of Plastic. A lot of great things are coming in the near future to the website in our 8th year (WOW!) so keep it here for all of your Geekly news! Casey and I have been meaning to do a SDCC round-up Podcast but so much is going on in both of our lives and we apologize. We are hoping to record this weekend. Until then, here are my highlights of what was announced at SDCC this year!
I had this thought about whether or not Mondo would be continuing their MOTU 1/6th scale series, after this past week I guess the answer is HELL YES! I love Mer-Man, as I always like aquatic characters, and to be honest this is one BADASS interpretation. I love that he comes with three heads and that Mondo is continuing their exclusive offerings. Check out the full details over on Mondo’s official site and get ready because they just announced Hordak and Man-at-Arms at SDCC!
WOW. JUST WOW. Forget Mezco (no offense we love you) but Medicom has completely KNOCKED THIS FIGURE OUTTA THE PARK!! The Mafex Miles Morales Spider-Man is THE figure of 2020 that must be part of your collection and you can now pre-order him and all his clothed goods over at Ami-Ami or BBTS.
So maybe my Marvel collecting days aren’t over for this line. We got a our first real look at the Gambit figure and Mezco announced a One:12 Collective Iron Fist. Gotta get em and now please announce a Luke Cage! We’ll keep you apprised on when this Kung-Fu master goes on sale!
Maul‘s (no longer a Darth) appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story took the fandom by surprise and now Hot Toys is cashing in on the opportunity to make the 1/6th scale action figure. I already have the deluxe Darth Maul on pre-order so I don’t think I’ll be getting this one but you can order it soon over on Sideshow.
When Super 7 got the license to Masters of the Universe I was decently happy. I mean Mattel has always had that secret plastic recipe that no one else could replicate. They had announced a special 2-pack for SDCC and that was a big surprise but not as much as when they announced their latest line Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins. These 5.5″ figures will build upon what the vintage figures did while adding better sculpts and articulation. Paint me intrigued, especially with that Skeletor. AND GUESS WHAT?! They are being sold through big box stores! Expect a retail price of around $15.
Finally today NECA has blessed us with MORE figures from the classic TMNT TV show. After the success of their first line of the brothers four and foot soldiers we will soon be adding the April O’Neil, Casey Jones, Metal Head, Slash, Leatherhead and a slew of new Foot Soldiers to our collective shelves. So get ready to get your hunt on this fall when these new two-packs hit the market. Oh and don’t forget they announce Bebop and Rocksteady at Toy Fair!!!
Happy Hunting!
