In one month we will get to experience Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Disney and Lucasfilm seem to have a lot of faith in the filmmaker, so much so they have given him the reigns to create a brand new trilogy of films set in the Star Wars universe!
Announced just as Casey and I finished podcasting so we weren’t able to discuss this amazing piece of news, Johnson will collaborate with producer Ram Bergman on the films which he is set to write and direct. No word on when the movies will take place or the characters they will feature but the word is that the movie will take place in a “corner that Star Wars lore hasn’t explored”.
Kathleen Kennedy has been singing praises for Johnson for his work on The Last Jedi so it is no surprise that they would entrust an endeavor of this magnitude to him. The quote that the trilogy will explore new territory is a little mysterious as many fans have been wondering when we will see an adaptation of the Old Republic, made famous in comics, books and video games of the past. Perhaps the quote could be read as “unexplored” meaning in New Canon, but we will have to wait and see what happens. Keep it tuned to DFAT for updates on this exciting project!
