I am excited to see Sleepy Hollow back for another season. The characters are well written and the relationship between the two Witnesses have developed into a very strong friendship, even family. Abbie has moved on to become an FBI agent while Ichabod has been traveling to various countries to find himself. With Henry and Katrina gone, Ichabod feels once more lost and alone. He feels that the great threat has been defeated, he no longer has a purpose in the world. His reasons to travel all over the world is to find something to fight for. He stumbles in Scotland and into his own gravestone. His curiosity gets the better of him and opens his grave only to find a tablet written in ancient Sumerian. His action attracts federal authorities (I.C.E.) when he tries to smuggle the tablet into the States. Abbie bails him out. His appearance is somewhat change. His hair is shorter, but he still wears the same colonial outfit. I guess his out dated garments is an extension of him and defines who he is. Abbie is happy to see him, but explains to him that she needed a change in her life and decided to pick up where she left off before she met Ichabod. So she went to Quantico and became an FBI agent. C.Thomas Howell guest stars as Abbie’s superior, Supervisor Special Agent in Charge Mitch Granger.
Back in Sleepy Hollow, a mysterious woman appears out of nowhere. The Headless Horseman encounters her on a wooded path and reacts very violently. The mysterious woman then traps him inside a very old box, but just then something came out of it: something big, something red and demonic. Because Ichabod is connected to Katrina, and the Horseman, he felt something is terribly wrong and must investigate further.
Abbie is called to investigate a double homicide where it is ruled an animal attack. The victim’s corpse definitely supports that, but Ichabod picks up something outside the victims home. A patch of red mud or earthly substance that Ichabod found fears it might be supernatural and demonic. Back in the Sleepy Hollow Archives, Ichabod tries to convince Abbie that there are more trials and challenges ahead for them, and as Witnesses they must endure them. Ichabod tells Abbie that there are seven tribulations that the Witness must go through. The first trial or tribulation was the defeat of Moloch, Ichabod believes that they are now facing the second tribulation. Jenny makes an appearance and Ichabod and Abbie welcome her with big hugs. She tells them that Captain Irving has left Sleepy Hollow to be with his family. Digging further into the Archives Ichabod stumbles upon another one of Franklin’s journals. It tells of a supernatural force or demon that draws on the fear and gunpowder at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Ichabod recalls a demon from the Tang Dynasty that gets its strength from the fear and the smell of gunpowder from the weapons the soldiers are using. The demon is called Yao-Guai or The Battlefield Demon. He recalls Washington sending a message to the commanding officer at Bunker Hill on how to kill the Red Devil. He tells Abbie and Jenny that Washington’s top operative was tasked to deliver the message. Her name was Betsy Ross. Jenny blurted out, “the flag lady?” Ichabod is shocked and offended that Betsy’s name and reputation is reduce to just one simple task. Abbie and Jenny reads him like a book and figures out
that he and Betsy had a thing. They head off to find that message and parchment bag only to discover that it is being displayed in a very cheesy and odd Colonial Restaurant. Ichabod is amused at the choices on the menu: Spaghetti and MusketBalls, Cannot tell a Lie Cherry Pie, and Eggs Benedict Arnold. They find Washington’s letter and bag and quietly steal it. Abbie is called back to her job. Jenny and Ichabod fears that with the Red Devil out there, Abbie is in grave danger. Abbie is tasked to bring in a very dangerous criminal and Ichabod knows that the Red Demon will be attract to any violence and Abbie is right in the middle of it. While trying to apprehend a criminal, Abbie wounds the Red Devil. She discovers it weakness and exploits that. The demon is vulnerable when his eyes turn white. Ichabod mentions the term, “don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes” when the colonial soldiers prepare to fight. He believes this is where they get that battle cry. He and Jenny come up with a plan to stop the demon. Unfortunately their plan doesn’t work, but Abbie is able to kill the demon and save Ichabod and Jenny.
Back in Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod, Abbie, and Jenny celebrate their victory at a bar. Ichabod shows Abbie the tablet, but there is something covered on the tablet. It is a picture of a man and women fighting side by side with an ancient Sumerian word “Destroyer”. This cements their destiny and future as Witnesses to battle evil together. Abbie accidentally bumps into a woman and apologizes. Abbie introduces herself to her, the woman introduces herself as Pandora….WTFrakk!!!!!!
A mysterious woman appears in Sleepy Hollow by the name of Pandora. Immediately you can tell this is going to be real bad for the Witnesses, but I love it. Another great start for the third season. The gang is back and we know they have a lot of work ahead of them. I still miss Henry!!!
