This episode addresses the issue of secrets and how much weight it carries for someone who holds it. Ichabod and Abbie must find a way to defeat a creature that Pandora has unleashed upon Sleepy Hollow that feeds on the fear of its victims secrets. Jenny is having trouble trying to keep Sheriff Corbin’s son Joe from knowing what his father, Jenny, and Abbie are involved in. An old flame and fellow FBI agent walks into Abbie’s life again.
It is rather comical watching Ichabod do household chores. He wants to help around the house to show appreciation for Abbie to give him a place to stay. On the other hand, doing someone else’s laundry especially women’s laundry can be very awkward. Ichabod learned that the hard way, when Abbie notices he was handling her personal items. Ichabod and Abbie are now roomies, that’s going to be fun.
Abbie gets a call about a murder in the Sleepy Hollow town hall. A young man, Paul Everett dies of a heart attack. Because of the age of this person it raises questions for Ichabod and Abbie. An old flame and fellow FBI agent, Daniel Reynolds, enters the picture. Abbie’s complexion and demeanor changes immediately. He is the replacement for the FBI Regional Chief that got killed recently. Their encounter gave Ichabod a feeling that they were more than colleagues and friends. Going back to the victim, Ichabod senses something when he approaches the victim, something shadowy, dark, and familiar from his past. Ichabod finds more information about what killed Everett in the Archives. He tells Abbie about a traitor during the Revolutionary War, Marcus Allen. He dabbled in the dark arts and performed a ceremony that turned him into a Whispering Wraith to search out and uncover spies working for Washington planted in the British Army. He believes that somebody recently raised a Whispering Wraith to find victims with secrets to feed upon. Abbie pieces together why Everett was targeted. He and couple others has some damaging information about a top County Official and were about to turn him in to the FBI. Everett had secrets. Abbie and Ichabod race to find the other two whistleblowers before the Wraith does. Unfortunately, the Wraith got to another whistleblower, Williams. He didn’t make it. Abbie and Ichabod gets attacked while trying to save Williams. Their secret resurfaces, but the Wraith disappears before it kills them.
Jenny gets a visit from Joe, Sheriff Corbin’s son. He feels that since she and Abbie are the closest thing to family, he wants to get involved in whatever his father and they are in. Jenny doesn’t want that for him and she would think his father would agree with her. Jenny’s house has been ransacked and it looks like they were searching for something. Joe gets kidnapped by one of Jenny’s old criminal partner, Randall. He blackmails Jenny for an old ancient artifact, a black shard for Joe’s life. She agrees and gets Joe back unharmed. Now more than ever Joe wants to get involved. Reluctantly, Jenny is willing to let Joe into her world. Their first mission is to retrieve the black shard from her old partner.
Abbie and Ichabod has one last whistleblower to protect, Susan James. They decide to make a circle of fluorescent bulbs to surround Susan for protection. The Wraith appears and Ichabod fights the Wraith. It seems like a hopeless battle, but he remembers something in his past that can weaken it. Just like an exorcism, calling out his true name can weaken it, having it face itself can stop the creature. Ichabod did just that, and it worked.
It’s a small victory for the Witnesses. They need to know who is releasing these dark creatures into the world. Ichabod notices something in the video feed at the Town Hall, a woman that doesn’t belong there. Abbie tells him that she is the same woman she met at the bar. She called herself Pandora. Ichabod is shocked and dismayed. They finally realize that they are dealing with a mythological icon that can literally unleash hell on earth. This is their second tribulation. Ichabod is right.
This episode shows that secrets can be the death of you. Abbie and Ichabod discvoer who is responsible for the recent supernatural events. This is the perfect time to have a powerful witch handy…don’t you think?? It is still unclear as to why Pandora is here in Sleepy Hollow, but it looks like she has the potential to wreak lots of havoc for the Witnesses.
