This week has been THE WEEK for Star Wars Rebels news! Let’s get to know the characters that will be featured in the animated series.
First up is our main character for the series, Ezra, a 14-year-old adventurer. Ezra’s planet is hit hard by the expansion of the Empire. Ezra will be voiced by Taylor Gray from Bucket and Skinner’s Epic Adventures. Here’s what executive producer Dave Filoni had to say about the new character!

We’ve seen it in the movies with a big rebellion that ends up blowing up the Death Star, but do we just assume that when the Empire took over in Revenge of the Sith it was seen as a bad thing? I would challenge that. It wasn’t this terrible thing that came in and was cruel to everyone all at once. It was slow to build its power base and spread out, and then we get to see the Rebel Alliance it affects, and the repercussions of that tyranny.”[/box_light]

Ezra will meet a Jedi named Kanan who is being described as a “cowboy Jedi”. Kanan has survived the Emperor’s purge of the Jedi and has been in hiding ever since. Voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr., and according to Filoni, “He’s a gunslinger that needs to put the gun away and pick up the sword again, and fight for noble causes and selfless causes.”. Kanan ends up meeting up with Ezra and from the sound of things will begin to mentor him in the ways of the Force.
There were plenty of reveals from Hasbro this weekend as they featured A TON of new products based on this highly anticipated animated series and beyond! Look for my Hasbro recap sometime this week, I unfortunately was not able to make it to their big reveal. But be assured there will be PLENTY of action figures and LEGO sets on shelves VERY soon. The Star Wars Rebels movie is set to premiere this summer on the Disney Channel with the weekly series airing on Disney XD in the fall!
