J. J. Abrams would be the perfect choice to direct the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. He’s a huge Star Wars fan, puts many references in his work, and is an amazing director. Unfortunately, Abrams has no desire to be involved in the new saga.
Abrams said in a recent interview with Empire magazine that I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”
I find it a shame. Abrams would have been my top choice in taking re-starting the series, along with his composing partner Michael Giacchino, to score the film in a new and dynamic way. We’ll keep you posted as more news from Episode VII comes in, and hopefully with the new year, we’ll learn who the new director will be!
