Some very interesting news on the DC movies front as rumors have placed Oscar winner Jared Leto as the current top runner for the role of the Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad. The Wrap claims the Leto is in negotiations for the role after Ryan Gosling having passed on it due to the contract’s multi-film obligation.
With Jessie Eisenberg rumored to return to the role of Lex Luthor, along with stars such as Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie rumored to be in negotiations for the film, this line up is looking to cast a number of A-listers to play the team of wrong doers. Director David Ayer likened the film to The Dirty Dozen with super villians.
While the Joker has never been a part of the Suicide Squad in the comics, due to not playing well with others I’d wager, rumors of Harley Quinn being in the film give us hope that we may actually get a taste of the Smiling Scoundrel if nothing else.
Hopefully we get to see the finalized product in 2016, a very sudden and fast-paced shoot and casting must be done if it is to keep that date. Being that Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice started it’s principle photography in May, while Suicide Squad is still wrapping up it’s casting. I’m sure the big wigs at Warner Brothers know that, so look for news regarding the casting very soon!
