It’s the fifty second edition of ToTS. Now most of you are probably expecting a new 52 joke. Well, shame on you. That would be unnatural and awkward for everyone involved. I thought better of you. This time I won’t forgive you.
A-Force #5 (Marvel)
Willow Wilson (W) Jorge Molina (A)
I am sad to see this series end, but on the same note, we have just been told that we will be getting an all new series once Secret Wars is over. There is a little depth that I think could have been added to this story, but I imagine encapsulizing an entire mythos in five issues can be a little difficult.
Civil War #5 (Marvel)
Charles Soule (W) Leinil Francis Yu (A)
This series has been brilliant. Of course we recently heard, or should I say saw, that they might be having a sequel to the massive 2006 series. So maybe this is just a teaser of something more to come later in 2016. For now, this series did its job.
Spider-Gwen #1 (Marvel)
Jason Latour (W) Robbi Rodriguez (A)
It’s back! Again. Yes, the third number one in a year of a character introduced just a year ago. It’s every fanboy’s nightmare. That being said, same creative team. Same shwang. Let’s do this.
Batman and Robin Eternal #2 (DC)
Tim Seeley (W) Paul Pelletier (A)
The first issue of this comic was awesome. I thin that some of the strongest elements of Batman Eternal were the bits that included all of the bat family, and this series looks to be rife with that. I am not the biggest Robin fan, I’ve said this before, but this series makes a solid case.
Constantine: The Hellblazer #5 (DC)
James Tynion IV/ Ming Doyle (W) Vanesa Del Rey (A)
I am really excited for the end of this arc. Not in a bad way. Not at all. Why do you always twist my words? This comic has been a rose in a ,in my humble opinion, rather bland bouquet of DC comics. It also allows the character to be introduced to fans of the show and people who have yet to read Hellblazer.
Captain America: White #3 of 5 (Marvel)
Jeph Loeb (W) Tim Sale (A)
Nothin I love more than some good ole fashion American tale tellin. This story is nothing short of brilliant. It’s so genuine in its telling. No facetious overtones or tongue in cheek playing. This is a true Captain America story to the bone.
Strange Fruit #2 (BOOM!)
Mark Waid/J.G. Jones (W) J.G. Jones (A)
Mark Waid has almost always been one of my personal favorites. He is a brilliant writer who can capture the most innate details in a story and bring them into the light. That being said, J.G. Jones has heightened this storytelling to an epic level. This is a powerful story. A bullet to the heart.
Low #10 (Image)
Rick Remender (W) Greg Tocchini (A)
I have often called this the saddest comic I am reading. When ever I attempt to get someone to read this story, I tell them “you will love it, but like a puppy with leukemia, it can only end in tears.” I may have embellished a little.
East of West #21 (Image)
Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Dragotta (A)
These last comics are really hard to put up against one another. They are all incredibly difficult, but I will try. This series has been blowing everyone away. You need to read it. It is worth every minute of the catch up time. Don’t worry I won’t judge you.
Sex Criminals #13 (Image)
Matt Fraction (W) Chip Zdarsky (A)
This series is god damned hilarious. Seriously, It is one of the most continuously funny things I have ever read or seen in any medium. This teams mastery over this medium just makes it all the more enjoyable. Still waiting on the TV show though.
Batman #45 (DC)
Scott Snyder (W) Greg Capullo (A)
This series has gotten even better since Batman died. Yes, I just said that. It’s about to get real in here, and you might have to get your jacket on cause I’m gonna rain some truth on your ass. Jim Gordon is one of the coolest Batmen ever. I’d say, only second to the original. Just saying.
Okay, I give. I forgive you. Stay smart.
