If you have a stack of comics and you set fire to them, you can actually summon the disembodied rage of Alan Moore to have and to hold. It’s almost free! Next time you have a stack of comics, try this at home! Remember to start at the Top of the Stack.
Colder: Toss the Bones #2 of 5 (Dark Horse)
Paul Tobin (W) Juan Ferreyra (A)
This series, while good, has only seemed to get less good with every new series. I am sorry to say that if it continues for another run, I may not be picking it up. That is a bit harsh though seeing as I’ve only read issue one of this arc. I’m just in a feisty mood today.
Howling Commandos of Shield #1 (Marvel)
Frank Barbiere (W) Brent Schoonover (A)
This is a series that I think a lot of people will overlook. In fact the only reason that I’m picking up the first issue is because of the team writing it. I’m not familiar with Schoonover, but from the preview, I can say his work is solid and seems to master the craziness of this title. I am, however familiar with Barbiere, and this will be his first series, to my knowledge, that he has started issue one on. I am intrigued.
Where Monsters Dwell #5 of 5 (Marvel)
Garth Ennis (W) Russell Braun (A)
The end of, shall I say, the funniest tie in to Secret Wars. I am interested if any facet of this series will pour into the comics coming out in the next few months. Only time can tell they say.
Wilds’ End: Enemy Within #2 of 4 (BOOM!)
Dan Abnett (W) I.N.J. Culbard (A)
This series has started off with the intensity of the last series. This is a comic that I can see going on for quite a while, and if they keep it as smart as it has been so far, I will follow it to the depths of Spawn-like series runs.
Batman and Robin Eternal #4 (DC)
Steve Orlando (W) Scot Eaton (A)
I am wholly tickled by how good the first issue of this comic have been. This is our third writer, and this guy can write. I managed to read a couple issues of Midnighter, and while my wallet didn’t approve of adding it to my list, I was pleasantly surprised. This is going to be a good run.
They’re Not Like Us #9 (Image)
Eric Stephenson (W) Simon Gane (A)
Something fishy is going on in this comic. I don’t know who I can trust any more. There are so many hidden agendas and unrevealed pasts that I really just need to sit the fuck down and watch what happens.
ODY-C #8 (Image)
Matt Fraction (W) Christian Ward (A)
The last issue of this comic was something absolutely beautiful. I mean, to be honest, they are all beautiful. But that one especially seemed to resonate with me. I really couldn’t tell you why, but I think this is a comic that any fan of literature or just reading words on pages or screens, should read.
Rumble #8 (Image)
John Arcudi (W) James Harren (A)
Halloween is coming up, and your favorite old god stuck in a scarecrow body is ready to fight some spooky monsters, or something. It’s a Halloween issue of a great comic. I’m sure it will be a romping good time.
Manifest Destiny #18 (Image)
Chris Dingess (W) Matthew Roberts (A)
Dammit, this series is seriously one of the best things I have ever read. I truly wish it got the attention that it deserves. Almost twenty issues in and it is still one of the most visually captivating and thrilling reads on the stands. Please read this comic. I want this to get a show, so you know, work some magic people of the internet. Furreal.
There it is. A fairly small week, but still it is a week. That is unless my spell finally gained enough power, and we can finally exist in a universe without measurements of any kind. In which case, everything is fucked and you are all probably already dead. Sorry. Stay Smart.
