You turn your head to the west. The sun meets your skin with a warm, caring embrace. Shielding your eyes from its glow, you make out the silhouette of your guide. They sit on the sand, next to their mount, heaving. Their body tenses and relaxes in a strange rhythm, before a slick black ooze penetrates their lips. It slides out and onto the sand. The sand begins to drink the strange fluid, absorbing all but a few solid chunks of something amber. The figure looks back, eyes full of understanding. “Top of the Stack”
Ufology #6 of 6 (Boom! Studios)
James Tynion IV (W) Matt Fox (A)
This series has been pretty good. Just NOT GOOD ENOUGH DAMMIT. No, seriously, it has a lot of potential but it never really clicked together for me. Maybe this last issue will do that for me. Who knows, you don’t.
Batman and Robin Eternal #5 (DC)
Steve Orlando (W) Scot Easton (A)
This series has been really solid so far. There was some awkward speech bubble syndrome there in the last issue, but I blame that on circumstance and my own ineptitude, not the writing. I have been very open about my love-hate relationship with the “Robin” character, and this series may just pull me over to the light-side.
Doctor Strange #2 (Marvel)
Jason Aaron (W) Chris Bachalo (A)
I absolutely adore what they’ve done with the character in the first issue. I mean imagine if Tony Stark were a seemingly infallible, unflappable, all-powerful sorcerer. Interdimensional playboy comes with the package of course.
Exodus: The Life After #1 (Oni Press)
Joshua Hale Fialkov (W) Gabo (A)
It’s back! I’m not really sure why they felt the need to re-title the series, but I’m sure they have a solid reason. Maybe this is the last arc. I will be sad if it is. I mean seriously, this has been one of my favorite sleeper hits of this last year. Pick it up.
Miracleman by Gaiman & Buckingham #4 (Marvel)
Neil Gaiman (W) Mark Buckingham (A)
Okay, so that last issue was weird. I mean it was a clone of Andy Warhol narrating his life in a post-death utopia, so that is to be expected I suppose. That being said, holy shit batman, this comic is gold. I have one burning question though. Will they do another series after this? Also, will Miracleman become part of the Marvel Universe?
We Stand On Guard #5 (Image)
Brian K. Vaughan (W) Steve Skroce (A)
This series is violent as hell. I mean in a very visceral, tendon ripping way. I believe this also the end of the first arc of the comic. I am hooked, I need to know what happens next.
Rasputin #10 (Image)
Alex Grecian (W) Riley Rossmo (A)
God dammit. This series isn’t supposed to be this good. I jumped on because I really enjoy Rossmo’s work, but I stayed because this is a damn tasty comic book. Seriously, why hadn’t anyone attempted to make a comic about the worlds craziest magician? Seriously?
Nail Biter #17 (Image)
Joshua Williamson (W) Mike Henderson (A)
Yaaay, a new arc! After that Halloween issue, I just want to get back into the swing of things. There is a new serial killer on the loose and we get to hunt ’em down. Woooweee, sounds like a wicked ole time.
Velvet #12 (Image)
Ed Brubaker (W) Steve Epting (A)
This is a master-class comic. Epting and Brubaker do a phenomenal job making every single issue, panel, moment, and word enthralling. I feel like I’m in some fantastic alternate reality where Hollywood actually put females in the leading role of old school spy films. Makes you wonder.
Paper Girls #2 (Image)
Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chang (A)
This series is going to be the next Saga. I’m totally calling it now. The first issue had me wide eyed, and giddy. I am so ready for issue two.
Black Science #17 (Image)
Rick Remender (W) Matteo Scalera (A)
YES! My favorite “Hey, you like that character, well they’re dead not.” “everyone is an asshole.” “we’re all going to die alone and let down.” feel-something comic of all time is back for another arc. Are you read to have some good fetal shower cries? I know I am!
Once again time has come for my pull list to end. Hopefully you can find it in your heart to forgive me. Honestly, I don’t care too much. Suck on that.
