He stepped out of the shower, a cool breeze from his cracked window sending a shiver across his whole body. The blurry outline of his head stared through frosted glass, his hair standing up in dull, wet spikes. Something made him want to cry. It may have been the empty house. Being alone in this house always made him feel weak, isolated. He could never put a finger on it. As he reached to close the window he spotted a woman on the street below him, trudging through the snow. Her breath creating ghosts of heat in the air ahead of her.

The Batman Who Laughs #1 (of 6) (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Jock (A)

I feel like I should be really excited about this mini series. I am mildly excited. I mean I really love when Jock and Snyder work together. I’m just kind of curious how this book is going to work in continuity and, no offense, but why do I care? I feel like that’s a question you should always ask when a mini series comes out.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)

Saladin Ahmed (W) Javier Garron (A)

Man. I have loved everything Ahmed has been working on recently. His Black Bolt series was fucking incredible and I’m really enjoying Exiles. Miles has been a character I’ve been interested in for a long time, but have never really picked up. This is a good time for anyone in that boat.

Doctor Strange: The Best Defense #1 (Marvel)

Gerry Duggan (W) Greg Smallwood (A)

So far this little mini event thing has been really fucking good. I mean seriously. With the talent on board,I was pumped already, but the Hulk and Namor issues were absolutely masterful. Pick these up if you have the chance. I am a massive fan of Smallwood’s art, so him on Doctor Strange, if even for only one issue, is a massive bonus.

Silver Surfer: The Best Defense #1 (Marvel)

Jason Latour (W/A)

My boy is doing all the interior art and words for the best shiny boy that Marvel has in their roster. I am massively pumped for this issue, see above. I have seen some art from this issue and let me tell you. Boy, Latour was the man for the fucking job. Check this out.

Black Hammer: Cthu-Louise #1 (DarkHorse)

Jeff Lemire (W) Emi Lenox (A)

Everyone’s favorite Lovecraftian spawn is back in a one-shot. I really love Lenox. She’s a wonderful talent and injects a melancholic innocence in the characters she draws.

Fantastic Four: Wedding Special #1 (Marvel)

Gail Simone/Dan Slott (W) Laura Braga(A)

Come on. You know you’re fucking excited to see our rocky boi get married. I sure as shit am, and this time no one gets left at the alter….right? Please don’t fuck us Slott. Too many bad marriages this year.

The Avengers #11 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Ed McGuinness (A)

I really love the big ideas that Aaron is injecting into this book, but lets be real, the insanity would be like half as insane if it weren’t for McGuinness’s art. I am really looking forward to what this team brings to this title going forward.I mean besides Hulk on Thor action.

Black Panther #7 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Kev Walker (A)

The next arc starts and I pray to the comic Gods that it is anywhere near as enthralling as the first arc.Seriously, this book is fucking incredible and if you somehow managed to miss it the first go around, pick this issue up and the first trade. Then and only then can we be friends.

Batman Annual #3 (DC)

Tom Taylor (W) Otto Schmidt (A)

I love the fact that this team is on this annual. Tom Taylor is working on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man early next year, and Otto Schmidt was one of my favorite parts of the Green Lantern series with Percy. This team tackling the Dark Knight is going to be a trip for sure. Also, it’s all about the best fucking butler around. Alfred Pennyworth deserves everything.

Cemetery Beach #4 (of 7) (Image)

Warren Ellis (W) Jason Howard (A)

This series is an all out action romp. It’s fast paced, energetic, bleak, and full of soul crushing realizations. I couldn’t be more on board if you paid me to read it. But, I mean, if you’re offering, I’ll do it for money too.

Patience! Conviction! Revenge! #4 (AfterShock)

Patrick Kindlon (W) Marco Ferrari (A)

I’ve read a decent amount of Kindlon’s stuff at this point and I can tell you that this book is a wild departure from his typical fare. It’s snarky, fun, and just a bit ridiculous. If you like armies of robots and just a little revenge, this book is going to be for you.

The Lone Ranger #3 (Dynamite)

Mark Russell (W) Bob Q (A)

This book is surprising. It surprised me, which is why I call it surprising. In all seriousness though, I was super excited for this book and it has yet to disappoint. I may not be the most familiar with Lone Ranger lore, but dammit if I don’t love this book.

Oblivion Song #10 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Lorenzo De Felici(A)

The rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper in this book. I really love how fast paced this series is. Kirkman is know for slow burning books but I think recently he’s been doing a fantastic job of getting right to the meat of his books.

Batman: Damned #2 (of 3) (DC)

Brian Azzarello (W) Lee Bermejo (A)

You may have heard of this book. You probably heard about the Bat-a-wang from issue one that all but sunk all hopes of the Black Label imprint at DC. I don’t know why they’re instinct to the press for their adult run of books was to shutter the idea, but this book is responsible….It’s a great book, penis or no,you should check it out.

The Magic Order #5 (of 6) (Image)

Mark Millar (W) Olivier Coipel (A)

This book was a little bit of a sneak hit for me. I picked up the first issue of Millar’s newest book Prodigy on a whim, let’s just say, it will not be making the top of the stack. I feel like Millar is a bit of a crap-shoot at times. I love a lot of his ideas but some just fall flat for me. This is not one of those books and I can tell you it’s 90% because OLIVIER COIPEL IS AN ART GOD.

Detective Comics #994 (DC)

Peter J. Tomasi (W) Jaime Mendoza/Doug Mahnke (A)

The first issue from the new team on Detective Comics. I am really excited for this new direction. More Detective….same amount of comic? Not sure about that last one but I am sure that you should jump on now while you have the chance.

The Quantum Age #5 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lemire (W) Wilfredo Torres (A)

I may have said this before, he said for the millionth time, but I could have sworn this was going to be a limited series. Turns out I was wrong and we get to live in this world for a while longer. I am both excited and excited about this. That’s it. That’s the depth of my emotion. I’m sorry to all of my loved ones.

Wonder Woman #60 (DC)

G. Willow Wilson (W) Cary Nord/Mick Gray (A)

This team’s Wonder Woman debut has been incredible. I love the tone of this book and I cannot wait to follow this book for a long long time.

Sideways #11 (DC)

Dan DiDio (W) Kenneth Rocafort (A)

Speaking of following a book for a long long time. This book is leaving me soon. I am still pretty upset about that but hopefully we’ll see this dude in some other books in the near future. One can only hope.

Justice League Dark #6 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Daniel Sampere/Juan Albarran (A)

This is my favorite Justice League book. Fight me.

Redlands #9 (Image)

Jordie Bellaire (W) Vanesa R. Del Rey(A)

This newest arc feels vastly different from the last one. Don’t get me wrong, the atmosphere is as strong as the last one, and obviously the talent overfloweth, but there is something different and fresh about this arc. Chalk this one up to a book that continues to surprise.

Skyward #9 (Image)

Joe Henderson (W) Lee Garbett (A)

Who would have thought that the book I almost passed up would go and become one of my favorite series. This book is fantastic and you are wrong for not reading it. That is,unless you are reading it, then you are right. Like me. I’m right.

The Amazing Spider-Man #11 (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Ryan Ottley (A)

Monsieur Ottley is back to bring the thunder…er… webbing(?) and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have him back on the book. Don’t get me wrong, the guest artists are great, but there is something he brings to this book that is undeniably great.

Murder Falcon #3 (Image)

Daniel Warren Johnson (W/A)

A book about starting a band to save the universe, with the help of a giant-beating Falcon-Man. What do you want from me? The plot should sell this book on its own. If you aren’t sold yet, I’m done talking to you.

The wind hurt her cheeks, but she knew she was almost home and the thought of a nice warm cup of coffee pushed her forward. There was a man staring at her from a cracked window in a small house on the corner. She glanced at him quickly, his eyes making her uneasy. She hurried a little more, feet barely maintaining traction on the icy sidewalk. Pulling her jacket just a little closer to her body, wrapping herself in the comfort of the night.
