All good things must come to an end. Sadly, this is my last Top of the Stack. HA! Sike! Totally had you going just then. Don’t tell me I didn’t. Aw, you looked so excited. Too bad you just gotta deal with it. Now onto the next chapter in our lives.

STK684469

Auteur: Sister Bambi #5 of 5 (Oni Press)

Rick Spears (W) James Callahan (A)

The end of an era. Another era, I guess. I don’t know. I’m allowed to use clichéd mellow dramatic phrases to describe relatively mundane things. You can’t tell me what I’m allowed to do.

BMRBET-Cv9-ds-5e772

Batman and Robin Eternal #9 (DC)

Collin Kelly/Jackson Lanzing (W) Roge Antonio (A)

I just finished the last issue of this, and it was good, but a little confusing. Mind you I had just woken up. Really makes you reconsider all these review sites, right? I mean if something as trivial as being freshly awoken can make my perspective on something shit, then really, who can you trust to give you an appropriate reaction to anything?

TheyreNotLikeUs_10-1

They’re Not Like Us #10 (Image)

Eric Stephenson (W) Simon Gane (A)

I think I may be falling out of love with this comic. I just feel like I’ve been waiting for the fuse to burn down on a big bomb, but now I’m not sure it was a fuse. It may have just been a string that was on fire. Where is the boom?

all new inhumans 1

All-New Inhumans #1 (Marvel)

Charles Soule/James Asmus (W) Stefano Caselli (A)

Okay, so if this is half as good as Uncanny Inhumans has been, you need to read this. Seriously, Soule is doing incredible things with the Inhumans and I am really friggan pumped to watch him paint his masterpiece.

red wolf

Red Wolf #1 (Marvel)

Nathan Edmondson (W) Dalibor Talajic (A)

Very curious about this title. I know it’s being written by a guy who I normally like, but has had a couple titles I wasn’t thrilled with. (Which is to be expected with all creators). Mean while, Talajic has managed to sneak his way into almost everything I’ve read in the past few years, so I’m excited for him to be doing this. I also know this takes place in Timely, the town from 1872, which I was afraid would get lost forever. Interested for sure.

all-new-all-different-avengers-2

All-New All-Different Avengers #2 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Adam Kubert (A)

Really loved this series. I mean honestly, this feels like one of those Waid classics in the making. With Kubert donning the paintbrush (not literally), this is going to be a seriously good ongoing. Do your self a favor, pick it up.

MIRACLEMAN2015005CVR

Miracleman #5 (Marvel)

Neil Gaiman (W) Mark Buckingham (A)

I love how Gaiman’s run on this series has focused entirely on the people living in the world around Miracleman. In this world he is a god, and they are just subjects to his will, players in his existence. Interested to see if this continues beyond the initial arc, or if this is the theme of his entire run.

doctor strange 3

Doctor Strange #3 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Chris Bachalo (A)

This series is shaping up to be one of my favorite ongoings. It adds a lot to the character of Doctor Strange. In my experience with the character, he is often portrayed as stoic, distant, and focused. In this series he reminds me a little bit of Constantine. I mean, you know, with morals. He seems to be just as confused with what’s going on, if not quick to remedy the problem. A very badass and reckless take on the character. I dig.

Nailbiter_18-1

Nailbiter #18 (Image)

Joshua Williamson (W) Mike Henderson (A)

This series has taken us to Georgia. Nothing scarier than that. I jest, see my jesting face? Of course you can, that’s preposterous. Seriously, the Devil went down to Georgia.

1437721178289-f00be

Daredevil #1 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Ron Garney (A)

I’ve made no attempt to hide the fact that Daredevil is my favorite superhero. He has always been one of my favorites, but over the last few years, he has rocketed past the competition. That being said, when Charles Soule, the source of my work-ethic crush, is writing that character, I become a little flustered. I need this comic to be everything I want it to be.

plutona_03-1

Plutona #3 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Emi Lenox (A)

There is something so close to home about this comic. There is a manner in which Lemire crafts the children’s relationships that reminds me a little of my youth. Not in an idealistic manner, but in an achingly accurate manner. I likes it.

PaperGirls_03-1

Paper Girls #3 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chang (A)

I am confused. Not in an angry way. In a completely naive and innocent fashion. I want to know desperately what is going on in this comic. It seems so hopeless, but we are the only ones who realize it. The characters haven’t caught up. I’m afraid they will.

BlackScience_18-1

Black Science #18 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Matteo Scalera (A)

What the hell happened in this comic? There seems to be a trend of me being confused. I wouldn’t call this confusion. I understand what I’m supposed to. That being said, they threw us right in the shit with this arc. Damn you Remender for making this comic so fucking interesting all the time. No Scalera, I’m not mad at you. Please keep making everything so god damn gorgeous.

EastofWest_22-1_362_557_s_c1

East of West #22 (Image)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Dragotta (A)

It has been almost two months since the last issue left me gasping for air. Shit is about to get real, like double the amount of real that shit typically gets, at least. I will leave it spoiler free, but everything you thought you knew, you didn’t really. So just stop.

Not a bad list for someone who can’t ever seem to commit to anything creative, eh? Don’t worry, some day I’ll actually do something. Just wait. No, seriously, wait.
