It occurred of the the course of a year. In the course of a single year, the world lost it’s only hope. The world lost all of it’s heroes. At first the strongest died, baffling the media. Legends dove from the sky, warriors died in battle, monuments crumbled, Gods felled. Then as the year progressed, things only became worse.

Hulk #1 (Marvel)

Mariko Tamaki (W) Nico Leon (A)

I’m taking a risk here. I love this character, and I am really intrigued to see what is going on with her after the events of Civil War II, but I don’t know either of these creators, so really, I’m diving into a pool and I can’t see the bottom. Lets hope I don’t break my neck and drown to death. Metaphor is a little intense, but you get it.

Black Panther #9 (Marvel)

Ta-Hehisi Coates (W) Brian Stelfreeze (A)

This comic is intense, and I really appreciate that. It can also be exhausting to read because of that, maybe I’m just a simpleton. That sounds more likely.

Divinity III: Komandar Bloodshot #1 (Valiant)

Jeff Lemire (W) Clayton Crain (A)

We got a peak at this strange alternate universe in the first issue of Divinity III, and I am intrigued to learn more about this communist commander. Nothing like an evil doppleganger to make your life more interesting.

Infamous Iron Man #3 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Alex Maleev (A)

The internet strikes back! Not really, but apparently some people really have a problem with Doctor Doom becoming Iron Man, and they’re not all on the internet!

Titans #6 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Brett Booth (A)

Damn man. It’s almost like Wally likes being trapped in the Speed Force or something. Maybe he’s just that kind of guy, you know, the ones who disappear all the time and are totally unreliable with dates and schedules. I can relate.

Civil War II #8 (of 8) (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) David Marquez (A)

Holy shit, will we actually find out what the fuck happens to Tony? I fucking hope so. I’m tired of playing this guessing game. Marvel really needs to get on their event time frames. Jeez, I mean who even has a baby now a days, let alone when you’re in the middle of doing the interior art for a comic book people are fiending over. What the hell, Marquez, enriching your life by building a family.

All Star Batman #5 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) John Romita Jr. (A)

Almost two months later we finally get the last chapter to this insane arc. I cannot wait for this issue, but what I am even more excited about is Jock joining the team for the next arc. All in.

Exodus: The Life After #10 (Oni Press)

Joshua Hale Fialkov (W) Gabo (A)

Holy shit. It’s ending. This is the last issue. I’ve talked some shit about this comic recently, but it’s just because I didn’t know what I had. I don’t want you to leave. I’ll treat you better, I promise. It won’t be like it was before.

Teen Titans #3 (DC)

Ben Percy (W) Jonboy Meyers (A)

Fuck everyone who says they don’t like Damian. I love the character. Sure he’s brash, loud, grumpy, and a huge asshole, but really, isn’t that exactly what Batman is deep down. Damian is definitely Bruce’s child.

The Mighty Thor #14 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Steve Epting (A)

KURSES! A WICKED ANTAGONIST ANTAGONIZES ME!

Detective Comics #947 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Alvaro Martinez (A)

It’s time to find out who is behinds the eerie bloody mask. My guess? It’s Bruce Wayne from another dimension coming to punish Batman for spending all of that time training when he could have just been a regular rich asshole.

Uncanny Inhumans #17 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Aaron Kim Jacinto (A)

This arc is really sad. That just makes it better. A brilliant meditation on how the world remembers the dead versus who the dead actually were. I hope Auran can find peace.

Seven To Eternity #4 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Jerome Opena (A)

Reclaim your name. Sometimes history will see your misfortunes in a new light and you can rise to become the hero. Or sometimes you just end up getting your family tortured. Just a thought.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #12 (Marvel)

Nick Giovannetti/Paul Scheer (W) Todd Nauck (A)

This series has really become the comedians book. I am really happy about that, having always been a huge comedy nerd. It’s always good seeing people like Paul Scheer writing a comic book. It fills my heart with goo.

Wonder Woman #13 (DC)

Greg Rucka (W) Liam Sharp (A)

What do you do after finding out that a huge part of your life has been a lie. If you’re me, you probably just take a nap and hope that shit just works out. That explains a lot doesn’t it?

East of West #30 (Image)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Dragotta (A)

I was beginning to worry that Hickman pulled a Hickman on us. It’s bee a while since the last arc and I worry about these things. Seeing as he’s left me high and dry plenty of times. Anyway, it looks like he may be on the final stretch of this comic. The final year of the apocalypse starts now.

Black Widow #9 (Marvel)

Chris Samnee/Mark Waid (W) Chris Samnee (A)

I’m going to reiterate, for the hundreth time. If you are not reading this comic, you are a foolish person. It is fucking amazing, and shows no signs of slowing down. Every issue is like reading the best parts of a Bond movie. Do it.

Deadly Class #25 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Wesley Craig (A)

Don’t you think it’s time we learned a little more about the dark past of our new protagonist? Rick Remender does, and even if you don’t like it, you will be forced down the rabbit hole. Dig it?

Family members passed, friends, pets, tv icons, musicians, personalities; they were all the victims of something inexplicable. There was only one thing in common, it was your biggest heroes who paid the price. Each person different, some idolized movie legends, some grew from music, some saw the strength in mothers and father, all felt pain in the year. Slowly our wills were decimated, slowly our world changed. Many people lost the will to live without their idols. One last hero took a stand before he died. He stood in front of the world and asked them to look inside. This was a terrible decision, because then everyone just died. Seriously, in the moment they all found something to idolize within them selves, they kicked the fucking bucket. Shitty, right?
