The construction site was still bustling. Different trades moving equipment all in strange tandem, like ants on a hill. Jerry and Timothy sat in the bed of Tim’s truck. They watched with passive eyes as a crane moved something heavy to somewhere high. Their hardhats rested at their feet, absorbing the warm rays of sunlight.

Edgar Allan Poe’s Snifter of Terror #5 (Ahoy)

Peter Milligan (W) Richard Case (A)

This is such a strange book. The talent that ends up working on the stories is incredible, but I can never manage to pin down the book. I suppose that’s a good thing.

Invaders #2 (Marvel)

Chip Zdarsky (W) Carlos Magno (A)

I have no idea how I feel about this book. The first issue was okay, but it didn’t blow me away. That being said, this is a powerful team. I am looking forward to what they do with these characters. It’s an interesting set up.

Black Panther #9 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Kev Walker (A)

Never thought Black Panther would work so well as a space opera. I guess that’s why you get insanely talented people to write your books. Who woulda thunk it?

Books of Magic #5 (Vertigo)

Kat Howard (W) Tom Fowler (A)

Will we see Daniel? Who knows? I don’t! That’s why I’m asking!

Justice League Odyssey #6 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Carmine Di Giandomenico (A)

New writer on the book? I wasn’t aware of that until just now. I know people have had serious issues with how Azrael was characterized, so maybe this is a good thing.

Shazam! #3 (DC)

Geoff Johns (W) Dale Eaglesham (A)

I feel like, while I enjoy this book, it isn’t really knocking my socks off like I thought it would. With the introduction of a really cool villain, I am hoping this book ramps up in a big way. I have no doubt it will.

The Flash #65 (DC)

Joshua Williamson (W) Rafa Sandoval/Jordi Tarragona (A)

This has been a really interesting crossover. I’m not sure how I feel about the vilifying of Gotham Girl, but I’m trying to hold my judgment on that kind of stuff until King wraps up his massive story. I have a feeling things will fall into place. Maybe I’m naive.

Captain America #8 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Adam Kubert (A)

This book has some fucking incredible talent working on it. For the last few years, Cap has had a bevy of writers with distinct tones, but this one feels like the Cap I read when I was young. Intense, invested, and strong-willed. It’s refreshing.

Savage Sword of Conan #2 (Marvel)

Gerry Duggan (W) Ron Garney (A)

First issue was a lot of fun. I know some people are going to be sticklers about Conan lore, but what fun are comics if you don’t break things a little bit. Okay, maybe that’s a bad idea…. Look, the book is good.

Bone Parish #7 (of 12) (Boom! Studios)

Cullen Bunn (W) Jonas Scharf (A)

Did this book get extended? I feel like it wasn’t originally solicited for twelve issues. Am I losing my mind? Someone help me. Whatever, I’m not going to spit at more issues of this comic.

Heroes in Crisis #6 (of 9) (DC)

Tom King (W) Mitch Gerads (A)

Okay, at this point I’m invested in finding out who did this shit. Actually, I might be invested more in finding out if it’s who I think it is and hoping that I’m wrong. Don’t disappoint me guys.

The Silencer #14 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Sandu Florea (A)

With all of the other series ending, and Bendis teasing a massive Leviathan arc in his Superman books, I wonder how long this book is destined to last. I love it, I don’t want it to end, but as you’ll see later in the list, that isn’t always how things work.

The Terrifics #13 (DC)

Jeff Lemire (W) Joe Bennett (A)

Lemire leaves after issue fourteen, which hurts, but Gene Luen Yang is going to pick up writing duties afterwards, so the book lives on in capable hands.

Wyrd #2 (Dark Horse)

Curt Pires (W) Antonio Fuso (A)

This book is weird. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I really love it and it’s incredibly promising. Pick it up now, nerd.

Martian Manhunter #3 (of 12) (DC)

Steve Orlando (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

This is a wonderful comic. I’ve loved every panel and every dialogue balloon. It’s a fresh and interesting perspective into one of my all time favorite characters and I cannot wait for you to read it.

Wonder Woman #65 (DC)

G. Willow Wilson (W) Jesus Merino (A)

The last two issues of this book are really proving to me that this is a wildly capable team for this character. You know I had my faith, but man, it feels good to be right.

Fantastic Four #7 (Marvel)

Dan Slott (W) Aaron Kuder (A)

You know how to win me over in a comic? Put Galactus and Dr. Doom in it.

Daredevil #2 (Marvel)

Chip Zdarsky (W) Marco Checchetto (A)

I feel like I’m going to love this series. I get excited even thinking about it. My boy has a pretty solid track record for competent creators. Name a bad Daredevil run. I dare you.

The Amazing Spider-Man #16 (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Ryan Ottley (A)

So this is the lead up to the big hullabaloo event that’s going to go on in just this comic. Yes you read that right. No crossovers….I’m aware of.

Detective Comics #999 (DC)

Peter J. Tomasi (W) Doug Mahnke (A)

The last issue before the big ole issue that everyone is gonna talk about. I am really impressed with this arc. So far, I think Detective Comics has had a pretty good run against the Batman ongoing, this might push it over the edge for me.

Outcast #39 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Paul Azaceta (A)

I feel like this book is in the middle of a sigh. Not like a sad sigh, but the sigh you hear right before a dejected martial artist is forced to whoop ass. I hope that’s the right sigh.

West Coast Avengers #8 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Gang Hyuk Lim (A)

Fuck. Thompson has confirmed that this book will end with issue ten. I am devastated. This book was fucking incredible and I cannot believe Marvel isn’t allowing it to grow. It has been an incredible ride. I expect you all to read the trades in retaliation.

Die! Die! Die! #8 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Chris Burnham (A)

The art on this book is fucking fantastic. You’d know that if you were reading the book. You are a disappointment.

The Realm #11 (Image)

Seth M. Peck (W) Jeremy Haun (A)

This book is like the most bonkers D&D campaign ever. Can we get a Die and The Realm crossover? Okay, actually scratch that. Can I play this campaign though?

Redlands #11 (Image)

Jordie Bellaire (W) Venesa R. Del Rey (A)

Come on. The texture of this book is unrivaled. Read it for the heart. Read it for the ambiance. Read it because it’s a good fucking comic.

Ice Cream Man #10 (Image)

W. Maxwell Prince (W) Martin Morazzo (A)

I love weird shit. It’s a problem in my day to day life, but ever since my physician recommended Ice Cream Man, I’ve been able to contain my basest urges. Now I only feel the need to dream about spiders dressed as my aunt Selma twice a week. Thanks Ice Cream Man!

Black Hammer: Age of Doom #8 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dean Ormston (A)

Man, I was not expecting that.

Jerry took a large bit of his dry sandwich and washed it down with a beer cleverly concealed in a McDonald’s cup. In their own worlds they both thought of a world where they wouldn’t have to drown out the days. A world where they had been as successful as they had always hoped they were going to be as children. A seagull cried overheard. Tim threw the rind of an orange at it.
