The notice to the universe was imperceptible to a majority of the beings that inhabited the near infinite space. A few creatures noticed the shifting winds, or their planetary equivalent. A shot rang out inside of those creatures, like a bolt of lightning (or their planetary equivalent) to the system. A mixture of fear, uncertainty, and unrivaled happiness bled through the core of their beings. The few who were aware enough to explain, told friends they experienced all of life in one moment, and that it set the next few moments up to be great disappointments.

Astro Hustle #1 (Dark Horse)

Jai Nitz (W) Tom Reilly/Ursula Decay (A)

I don’t really know much about this book to be honest. It just looked kinda funky and the main character is an allusion to a fun surrealist film that everyone should have seen by now. I like the vibe, plot sounds fun. Shot in the dark here .

Morning in America #1 (Oni Press)

Magdalene Visaggio (W) Claudia Aguirre (A)

I saw the cover and it pulled me in, then I saw who was writing it, and the synopsis and I’m in. A year ago I happened to meet Magdalene and we talked briefly about the resurgence of 80’s bicycle-gang movies and shows. I’m not saying I’m the reason this book exists, but I mean, lets be real. I’m pretty important.

Black Hammer ’45 #1 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lemire/Ray Fawkes (W) Matt Kindt (A)

ANOTHER BLACK HAMMER BOOK! This time a new writer enters the fray. I’m interested to see how a different creator handles the vast world of Black Hammer. This one should be good.

Red Sonja #2 (Dynamite)

Mark Russell (W) Mirko Colak (A)

This book was fine. That being said, it didn’t really stick out to me. Russell is a bit of a slow burner though, so I expect this one to ramp up quickly.

Justice League #19 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Jorge Jimenez (A)

Weird shit in a weird dimension. Sounds like my autobiography, amirite? Seriously though, my existence is becoming vaguer by the moment and I struggle to make basic human connections. My tethers to this life are becoming thin. Help me.

The Avengers #16 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) David Marquez (A)

Last issue didn’t have enough Captain America punching vampires. That’s a big let down. Besides that, the issue was really fun and so far this arc has been amazing.

Batman #66 (DC)

Tom King (W) Jorge Fornés (A)

Back to the main event, or should I say pain event. Man, Batman has some problems to work through, ho boy.

Cemetery Beach #7 (of 7) (Image)

Warren Ellis (W) Jason Howard (A)

I am excited to see how they wrap up this absolutely insane romp. It’s a nuts comic that deserves a second reading. Even a third. It’s the nutso fun that Ellis makes so captivating.

Conan the Barbarian #4 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Gerardo Zaffino (A)

Hey, you like a no holds barred animal of a man taking his specific brand of vicious passion to the people of a “cultured” society, right? I knew you did. Boy, do I have to book for you.

Doomsday Clock #9 (of 12) (DC)

Geoff Johns (W) Gary Frank (A)

The ever delayed book has made its triumphant return. The last couple issues have really begun to explore the stuff I was hoping to see in this book. The whole Black Adam aspect is insanely intriguing and I am pumped to see more.

The Girl in the Bay #2 (Berger Books)

J.M. DeMatteis (W) Corin Howell (A)

This book feels like it’s gonna break my heart. You guessed it, that means it gets a big ole boost in the list from me. I like to be hurt. It’s an issue.

The Green Lantern #5 (DC)

Grant Morrison (W) Liam Sharpe (A)

This is the most bonkers superhero comic I’ve read in years. Get rid of all the psycho-exploration of the character. Lets get to the root of this ridiculous super-cop.

The Amazing Spider-Man #16.HU (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Iban Coello (A)

Notice that .HU at the end. I know you did. That’s the inner series crossover/event thing that’s happening. Kraven is hunting all the bad dudes and dudettes that are dressed like animals. I’m not kidding. That’s the point of this event, and I am fucking pumped.

The Immortal Hulk #14 (Marvel)

Al Ewing (W) Kyle Hotz (A)

If you haven’t hopped on the Hulk train, I don’t really know what to tell you. I mean, you see these covers right? The best work Ross has done in years? You ignored that, and my endless pleas to read this book. You did this to yourself.

Die #4 (Image)

Kieron Gillen (W) Stephanie Hans (A)

This has been my favorite new book. I’ve told you guys about the depths of the nerdiness that runs through it. Last issue really opened my eyes with a brilliant homage to Tolkien. If you love fantasy, you’ll love this book. It’s pretty simple.

A Walk Through Hell #8 (Aftershock)

Garth Ennis (W) Goran Sudzuka (A)

This is a genuinely horrifying book. Not in the typically “spooky” fashion I’ve been digging recently. This is in it’s own league entirely. This book peels back the skin of your darkest memories and forces you to stare into the chasm.

Paper Girls #26 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chiang (A)

The end is here. It might be the beginning? Maybe the beginning of the end. Maybe vice versa. Time travel is weird.

Deadly Class #37 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Wes Craig (A)

HAVE YOU WATCHED THE FUCKING SHOW? HAVE YOU? GO WATCH THE SHOW!

A cold breeze pushed through thick brush and created a papery symphony. It was too cold to be outside, but just barely. If you could stand the discomfort, it was actually a lovely night. Gerri watched the stars blink into a sort of cosmic awareness. She held that knowledge close to her, afraid that if she shared it, it might just disappear.
