The sound of the beach and the music in the house behind him fought to cancel each other out. Jeremy sat on the sidewalk outside of his friend’s house, nursing a warm beer, trying to disappear into the wind. He felt that was dramatic enough to get his point across. He could sense someone walking up behind him, he chose not to look at them.

Prism Stalker #1 (Image)

Sloane Leong (W) Darius Ou (A)

I’m an easy sell. Honestly, I love bright, flashy, colorful sci-fi. That’s all you need to bring to the table and I’m in. Doesn’t hurt that the solicitation adds a bit of David Cronenberg to the mix. I’m in.

Oblivion Song #1 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Lorenzo De Felici (A)

You’ve heard of this writer right? He’s done a couple things here and there. This is his next big move after ending Invincible, and dammit if it doesn’t look purty.

Gideon Falls #1 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Andrea Sorrentino (A)

Come on. You know I have to read this book. If you’ve been reading this article for any amount of time, you know Lemire is bae. Top that with an extra sprinkle of Sorrentino on interiors, you’d be a fool to skip this one.

The Avengers #683 (Marvel)

Mark Waid/Al Ewing/Jim Zub (W) Paco Medina (A)

Things get weirder. The title of my new book.

Black Bolt #11 (Marvel)

Saladin Ahmed (W) Christian Ward (A)

Oh shit, I did not see this coming. I literally re-read the last couple pages when they dropped the big stone cold stunner of an ending on me. It had me so messed up that I started using wrestling terms, and I hate wrestling.

Batman: White Knight #6 (DC)

Sean Murphy (W/A)

Can I say that I just hope this ending doesn’t let me down? I mean that in a non-shitty way. This book is gorgeous, but it would break me if it had a shit end.

Doctor Strange: Damnation #2 (Marvel)
Nick Spencer/Donny Cates (W) Szymon Kudranski (A)

I was not expecting the last issue of this to be as badass as it was. That’s saying something because look at that talent. This is a really cool idea that is being done well. Good job guys.

She-Hulk #163 (Marvel)

Mariko Tamaki (W) Diego Olortegui (A)

This is the week of ending comics, it seems. This series is capping off for now. I’m really sad because this was an incredible story. I hope the ending is as big as the series was.

Hawkeye #16 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Leonardo Romero (A)

Same with this series. Goodbye Kate. What the hell guys, stop getting rid of my girls.

Green Arrow #38 (DC)

Benjamin Percy (W) Juan Ferreyra (A)

Not really ending so much as the team leaving. Really sad, honestly, unless the next team blows me away, I may be saying sayonara to this series.

The Wild Storm #12 (DC)

Warren Ellis (W) Jon Davis-Hunt (A)

This series is regularly the highlight of my week. It’s smart, fast, and insanely creative. I am 100% buying these in trade when all is said and done, just so I can binge it again.

The Gravediggers Union #5 (Image)

Wes Craig (W) Toby Cypress (A)

First arc is coming to a close and god dammit if it isn’t one of my favorite comics. It kicks you in the teeth with a crazy, inventive world that I need to have a whole universe of. Make this Image’s Hellboy, give me everything.

Captain America #699 (Marvel)
Mark Waid (W) Chris Samnee (A)

This series is so fucking good. Like good as in a good dog. It’s happy to see you, it’s naive, and that’s what makes it so great. You know, just like Steve.

Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles #3 (DC)

Mark Russell (W) Mike Feehan (A)

Fuck, this book is way sadder than it has any right to be. It’s a brilliant meditation on society and the people that balance the edge between perceived normalcy and shunned outcasts.

The Fix #11 (Image)

Nick Spencer (W) Steve Lieber (A)

It’s back baby. My favorite Spencer jam. Lieber Fever, baby. Other funny things I’m too lazy to write.

Batman #42 (DC)

Tom King (W) Mikel Janin (A)

Surprise. The last issue was great, also it featured one of my favorite characters. So, you know. Here I am, with Batman at the top of my list again.

East of West #36 (Image)

Jonathan Hickman (W) Nick Dragotta (A)

It has been four fucking months without this book and I hurt. I hurt so much. Give it back to me.

“Bad night?” The voice was female. This made Jeremy interested, he was no different from anyone else, just as much a slave to his ego as anyone else. He turned to her and shrugged. Nailed it, perfect mixture of mystery and self involvement. She was everything he ever envisioned when he built a woman up with all of his insecurities and expectation. The perfect model of fantasy at the point of collision with reality. The woman he knew she could never be, but never failed to expect. Needless to say, two years later it didn’t work out.
